Boxing please

Mayweather would take him apart.

Froch seems be trying to talk himself out of retirement for a Wembley battle against GGG. A few months ago he was saying nobody wants GGG and he punches like a mule. Now he's calling him a fraud and never fought anybody.

Regards to McGregor he would get absolutely blitzed by mayweather in a boxing ring, BUT, it would take quite some time for him to get McGregor out of there, as he has very weak to average punching power, but ridiculous accuracy and timing, if you think Conor is good, Mayweather is on another level for that shit. BUT, my question would be, has Mayweather ever faced another boxer with the timing and precision of McGregor? I can't think of one. Pacquiao and Canelo certainly didn't, they're not that sort of fighter. So you have to ask yourself, whilst Conor is getting blitzed by hundreds of medium strength shots, he is going to land on Mayweather, it's a fact that he just will, at somepoint. Can Mayweather take that shot? I've no idea. He gets hit significantly so very very rarely by anyone, that it's hard to tell how he'd respond. So McGregor would get tagged A LOT, but Mayweather would definitely feel a couple from Conor in that process. Do they do any damage? Could he knock him out?

I'd say a fairly early stoppage in rounds 3-5 from the ref if I was putting money on it. But, if Conor caught him, fucks knows what would happen, we've never really seen any history to that before.

In a MMA fight, fuck me, brutal. Probably over 30-60 seconds in via a rape.

Wow, Ward gets the points victory. Didn't expect that at all. Ward did fight back in the middle and later rounds, but Kovalev did edge I think.

Definite rematch in the works.

Just got up and watched the Ward/Kovalev fight and thought it was great. Nothing flashy but a good hard fight between 2 of the best in the world.

I had Ward as the winner but only marginally and wouldn't have been surprised to see the decision go the other way; really was a toss of the coin. Can't believe that some of the American TV pundits have Kovalev by 7/8 points though.

I'm with you @dmishra; gotta be a rematch and if there is I reckon it won't go to points.

I don't see how Ward won that, I had Kovalev winning it by at least 3. Kovalev dominated the early rounds including putting him on his arse, then the 2nd half of the fight was even. American judges in Vegas, and Ward is a poster boy. You're always going to struggle against that. Really Kovalev has to knock him out to ever get a result there, and he couldn't as Ward is to wiley.

I agree, I thought Kovalev won that 7-5 or even 8-4. He was pretty dominant in the first 4 rounds, and definitely won 2-3 of the later ones as well.

Ward did really well to come back because it looked like he might get knocked out in the first 4, but I certainly don't think he did enough to win. I could have understood a 6-6 draw because a couple of the rounds were close, but a win for Ward is pretty hard to understand.

In either case, it was a top class fight. Two really good fighters, contrasting styles, and no-nonsense stuff.

I reckon if Kovalev gets his rematch, he'll go all out for the knockout. I thought he eased off too easily, and should have done better at cutting off the ring, and repeatedly pummeling him.

Yeh they're saying that kovalev had the rematch clause written into the contract as they were all his belts. In an ideal world they'd fight somewhere neutral with neutral judges, but due to the money involved there isn't really anywhere else they can go

Browne has been drugs busted AGAIN. So now Briggs doesn't have a dance partner for the WBA belt....... I guess we all know who's gonna want to step into that ffs

Considering he's ranked 7 by the WBA (and 3 with the IBF and 4 with the WBO...fuck knows how!!!) and the circus that's surrounded the pair of them for most of the last year I think you're right.

Yep I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Haye WBA champion in the spring. Farce. He'd be then on AJ's case for a unification ($$$$).

A very interesting bout this weekend - Vasyl Lomachenko v Nicholas Walters for the WBO 130 pound title.

Walters is an unbeaten knock-out artist - packs a serious punch at his weight.

Lomachenko is of course regarded as the most 'skilled' pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. Double Olympic gold medalist. Amateur record of 396-1 (widely considered to be the best of all time). But this is only his 8th pro bout, and he's already been beaten once. Still, he's absolutely fascinating to watch in the ring - footwork, handspeed and craft are absolutely at an elite level.

Should be a really good fight to watch just for the contrast in styles.

Think yesterday's announcement of Haye vs Bellew speaks volumes for Haye's motivation for making a return...£££££! He's likely turned down a chance at the WBA title for this shit.

I don't blame Bellew for taking this fight; he's done well to get this far on his limited ability and this will be a far bigger pay day than he'd ever get at cruiserweight where he's also likely to get knocked out v soon.

Lomachenko wins, and retains the 130 pound title.

Walters quit after Round 7 after getting outboxed thoroughly. Got booed by the Vegas crowd too for quitting in the corner.

AJ on tonight. I think he won't go for an early knock out and try and get rounds under his belt. KO in rounds 7-9.

A typically poor undercard from hearne. Whyte should retire chisora. Smith needs to blow away his opponent and some bird is fighting.

I'll tune in about half 9 or so I think. Not really arsed about the undercard.

Not really arsed about the main event either tbh, but may as well watch anyway.

Callum Smith won with a sickening knock out. They didn't show a replay it was that bad.

He won every round but didn't convince throughout the fight. The more I watch him the more he has seemed to regress. De gale would take him apart.

Quig with an impressive performance and knock out.

Now a pair of birds fighting. Can't believe this is so high on the card. I get they are trying to promote female boxing but there has been British title fights on earlier. This is someone in their second fight.

Fuck me they're talking them up enough aren't they?

They do it in the UFC too, it's properly patronising.

She's a decent fighter, technically brilliant, but let's face it it's not as exciting as watching two fellas go at it.

At least in ufc the ability to use the entire body & wrestle means the female events can be very entertaining, it's hard for women's boxing to be as entertaining cos they only have punches to cause damage with.

They'd both beat seven kinds of shite out of me though.
