How good has this guy been for us?

Milner 1 away from Europe assists record

Ahead of this week's semi-final first legs, the Liverpool midfielder is primed to break the tournament's all-time record for assists

James Milner may not be one of the most exciting players in world football but he is one of the most effective, as underlined by the fact that the Liverpool ace is on the verge of making Champions League history.
Ahead of his side's semi-final first-leg meeting with Roma at Anfield, the England international needs just one more assist to break the tournament's all-time record for a single season.
Indeed, Milner has already created eight goals during the Reds' remarkable run to the last four – three more than his nearest rivals, team-mate Roberto Firmino and Luis Suarez of the already-eliminated Barcelona.

Should the 32-year-old midfielder turn provider again against Roma, he will claim outright possession of the record from Neymar and Wayne Rooney, both of whom racked up seven assists, in 2016-17 and 2013-14, respectively.
Milner's achievement is made all the more remarkable for the fact that he has played only 611 minutes – fewer than both Neymar (797) and Rooney (765).

Isn't 8 more than 7?

Any mathematicians around?

I fucking love him.

Can, hendo and Gini could go tomorrow , wouldn't be that fussed but not Milner , he best retire here!

I would love it if he retired here and then, like Gary Mac and Didi Hamann, like the rest of his life as a Liverpool legend... as if all the other clubs they played for were small time and unimportant.

Absolutely , Leeds are a needy as fuck club, as are the fans , so they'll never forget , nor will the Geordies but the reception those city fans gave him the other week made me wanna fuck up the city bus , the spiteful cunts.

Id have made him captain by now

Anyone fill in the blanks?
Im thinking of players who only had one or two seasons here towards the very end if their careers but had a massive impact and are still highly thought of by the fans.

Anelka maybe although he had years in him when we fucked up and let him go

Finnan was here for ages, wasn't he? I'm thinking at least 4-5 years

He really is one of those ‘Should have played his whole career here’ types

Yeah, we've had that conversation a few times. One of those players who seems a perfect fit for Liverpool, and indisputably one of those players that have always been around in our best teams; perhaps not the most aesthetically pleasing or eye-catching, but essential in terms of attitude and work ethic.

And that's probably doing him a disservice, because he's also, stat-wise, incredibly effective in terms of goals and assists

Finnan? Behave, the end of his career? He was about 26 when he joined surely?

Heggem was boss for a season or two, but had to retire due to injuries.

Milner is boss. Remember Villa buying him for 12 mill around the same time we were screaming out for a winger, and ended up with Riera.

Riedle maybe Morientes definately. But was he any good?

He's been good but he's certainly been found wanting in a number of games too.

Shame we didn't get him at 21
Tell me the name of a player that hasn’t been found wanting in the odd game? What is clear is that it is very rare he has a poor game. He’s Mr 7-8 almost every game.

Half way through the season and most would have said he was finished.

He's had a good couple of months.

Not that I don't rate him but I think people are getting carried awsy. We need better week in week out if we want to win a league title.

Decent squad option and great to have around the club.

I think we really reap the benefits for him being well rotated early in the season. He is a beast at the moment.

He's exactly the sort of footballer that your typical whiteboard-wielding, stat-monkey superfan who really "understands football" and is beholden to more aesthetically pleasing, cultured footballing "technicians", don't like and don't rate.

Which obviously makes me like him more.

So he's the anti wijnaldum

I don't remember what game it was, but twice his ancle took a bad hit from someone flying in With feet above the ground, and instead of that rolling around pretending to be dead he just shook it off. He is really a superb guy. Love that attitude. If you are going to win the duells he is in you better be prepared to kill him.

He does that thing where he does a lot of work you DO see.
