If Carroll doesnt start on saturday I think I'll go absolutly mental.

same thing happened v manu. he puts in a good performance, we knock out manu and then he is dropped for the next manu game and we lose. but we're jumping the gun as we don't now he will be dropped for everton.

Did anyone see Carroll's face when he checked the notes before coming on at the weekend? He looked at the assistant and said "why?" and shook his head. Downing got hooked AGAIN for him to come on. It defies logic. Rafa used to do the same with Pennant and Crouch. I know Pennant was shite like, but anyway.

if it confuses us it will confuse the opposition and while they stumble around in their confusion we pounce, panther like.

I know. Defies logic.

They've caused havoc as a partnership at stages this season. Goals, assists, combination play, linking as a partnership, neat interplay, opening up defenses. You name it, they haven't done it.

55M for a big bag of dick.

I never said they were great, but from the start of the season they haven't had much playing time together and one seems to hooked for the other all the time.

Of course, I could be wrong and your whole view regarding us buying a 'crosser' for a centre forward could just be stereotypical rubbish.

We average 2 points a game when they play together and 1 point a game when they don't. I think I'd rather they played for a bit.

Which kind of puts Ryans argument to bed.

They should be playing together.

60% of our goals have been scored in the 16 matches Carroll has started...

Explain to me how that wasnt the case then. And explain to me why Comolli brought up the point about Downing put in a heap of crosses as part of the rationale for buying the fucking cunt while you're at it.

I'd rather we had a manager who didn't pay 55 million pounds for the pair of tubes in the first place.

Explain why they haven't played together much then? That's the point, you might argue that it's an old, unfashionable tactic, but the fact is we haven't exactly tried to bludgeon the tactic into the team, have we?

I know, it hurts being wrong doesnt it.

You can talk all you like about sexy football and world class players, but with the squad we have NOW. They should be starting. Goals and points wise it makes sense.

When new players arrive then we can talk about how to set up. But from our current point of view they should start. Its a no brainer.

I'm up against people arguing the old Carroll and Downing partnership equalling points debate.

We're 8th and they haven't combined for 1 goal all season. For just the 55 million quid.

I'M FUCKED

That's not quite accuate.

"Liverpool have scored 37 league goals; 21 of them (56.7%) have been scored with Andy Carroll on the pitch, despite starting only 16 games."

So in Carroll has started about 50% of the time, and presumably played more due to subs, and about the same percentage of goals have been scored in that time. So it's just the wording that makes it look like he should play more.

I have no idea how many times they've played together Mark, but I'm gonna gues it's about 15, maybe 20 times. I'm happy for someone to provide me the exact figure.

And in that time they haven't combined once. Not even one time. And we paid youknowhowmuch for that?

I agree and I'm not going to back us spending £55m on them, it was money pissed away, but they haven't been put together that much for it to be a partnership that's been worked to death on, it hasn't.

It won't work as a partnership though will it mate?

55M was a bargain.

We all know that 55m was ridiculous and that these players aren't good enough and that hopefully shit will have changed next season. I thought we were discussing what our most effective team would be tonight.

even though ryan's pearls of wisdom have value like 'we need better players' (fucking GENIUS), we need to deal with what we currently have and over the course of this season we have earned more points when carroll has started and further we've earned more points when downing and carroll started together. it's pointless discussing the fee of both players when there is fuck all we can do about it now.
