Big Andy

I'd advise you to watch Suarez's movement for the second goal. Big Dunc wouldn't even fucking think to make that type of gamble.

Before Henderson even billeted it Suarez was taking a gamble and shifting away from Woodgate. It was quite brilliant actually and the mark of a world class player. Perhaps I'm being harsh on Andy, but you lot are drawing a long bow by crediting him for any fucking part in that second goal.

I'm not for a second trying to compare Carroll to Suarez, that's ridiculous, I'm saying that he makes defenders uneasy, they concentrate on him when he's in the box, and that invariably makes life easier for those around him. Against Norwich both centre backs were fully focused on Suarez (still wasn't enough), that wasn't the case last night as they had to worry about Andy too.

It's probably true that defenders are concentrating on Carroll and that helps create space for others. But we had that with Crouch, why didn't we just keep him?

I know Carroll has to potential to be miles better than Crouch, but if all he's adding at the minute is space, then we have a problem.

It's not all he's adding is it? Did Crouch hit anything as powerful as the shot their keeper spilled in the first half? He's got a good shot on him and he did well yesterday. Fuck the price tag, we haven't been scoring with him not in the side and we seem to with. He should get a good run with Suarez from now on.

So Carroll's shots that don't go in are hit harder than Crouchs shots that didn't go in? Bonus.

For me Carroll's got to start using his head more. And I mean mentally rather than physically. Having a bit more common sense and being the nightmare for defenders that he was for Newcastle. His best moment was the lay off for Bellamy. Standing on the edge of the area and then forcing their defender back to make space for the shot. Give him a run in the team and even if the ball goes in the net off his arse it will do his confidence the world of good.

Completely agree with you there numbers. I've been saying for ages that he needs to be more physical and use his strength to his advantage. It's as if he's trying to play like Suarez. Don't, just be a fucking monster to play against.

I do agree. I just wish we'd see more of those talents coming through more often. He does need to add in a few goals too. But, yes, he does deserve to start now.

Well no but there've been a couple this season that should have been assists. I mean I would have trapped that last night, Suarez is shite.

I like Andy a lot and I believe he could play a vital part in our quest for the title.

When/If Suarez is going to need a break - that will happen eventually - or even worse get injured for a prolonged period of time I'm sure Carroll will step up. With Gerrard, Downing and Maxi/Kuyt/Adam/Henderson supplying him he'll score tons of goals on his own.

Hope we'll see a lot more of the Suarez/Andy partnership the coming weeks mind. Loves it and I'm quite sure our opponents fear it much.

get real. if suarez gets injured we're pretty much fucked, and all the mandy carrolls in the world won't change that.

i do sort of dig Woland's point about his shot, though. it's a major weapon, and hopefully as he gains confidence he'll unleash it more frequently.

Was watching the Andy Carroll story on LFC.tv a few month back and one of the Newcastle coaches was sayin that Andy could have 30 shots in training and 28 would be off target and the other 2 would be unstoppable.
Hardly the etiquette of a 35 million pound striker.
I know he will get much better in time but the current system don't suit him.
But then again we shouldn't be building a team around him just coz of the price tag.

I'm probably Andy Carrolls biggest supporter on here, but biased aside he deserves a run in the team.
Played well last night and had a much better work rate.
Ryan has got it spot on with him playing to his natural strenghts and being a monster to play against instead of trying to be something he isnt.

Last 3 starts. 3 wins and Suarez has scored 4 goals and Carroll 1. More of the same please Kenny.

Gary Speed rates the real Big Dunc as the best player he ever played with - even for a horrible blue nose cunt, he undeniably played with some top pros. Just saying like.

Thought Carroll had a good game. There are very few physically harder games in the country for a striker to handle than taking on that 4 centre back wall - would Suarez have done as well as he did last night with Ngog alongside him? Would he bollocks. Are we justified in expecting consistently higher standards for our money? Fo sho. Give the lad a flipping chance though.

I agree. This really needs sorting out. Kenny needs to tell him he is first name on the team sheet for the next ten games and he sinks or swims on that. I don't think it's coincidence we win with him in the side, when he and Suarez play it usually means we are better balanced, and it does free up Suarez and saves him having centre backs taking it in turns kicking him and getting him all frustrated

regards

I'm just hoping there is some sort of legal redress and Newcastle have to take him back, not fit for purpose or some shite like that.

35M FFS, whenever I see him play (or sitting on the bench) I just can't get my head around that figure.
I know exactly what you mean - yeah....35M just say it and think it 35M sitting on the bench, and when playing and not scoring I think 35M.

played with much more confidence after his goal. good link up play with luis. should definitely start with luis against the swans

It's pretty simple.

He could have a mare (which he has had for us in the past) but he'll still cause the opposition all sorts of problems, someone his size and build will always do that.

You add a bit of confidence to someone who is more than capable and you've got one hell of a forward.

Love him. Dont know why, just do. Really want him to succeed.
And he will Mr H i'm sure..

Don't Dick around with the team kenny. Leave Andy there its just starting to gel. The only thing i would do is get Bellers in there.
Show Andy the next ten team sheets with his name one it and he will be a monster.
He definitely does take a lot of pressure off Suarez

*Awaits howls from soccer purists

4 starts 4 wins.

Yep, if only Kenny took the 'if it aint broken, don't fix it' route. He's definitely improving each game & offering more himself, but even without that he definitely improves the team.

I really hope Andy brings it. Really wanted him to succeed here. Imagine if we can unleash a motivated and confident beast.

Hope he plays next week against Swansea. They we're weak aerially against Wolves last week.

Lead the line well, looked hungry and up for it. He wasn't brilliant by any means and his touch was still poor at times but it was a much improved performance.

As spider-neil has said, Carroll's the type that needs plenty of games under his belt before we see his qualities come to the fore. His movement and willingness to work the opposition defenders was very pleasing to see.

Surely he'll start against Swansea.

He was a 35m pound panic buy.

We bought him.

He is ours.

He played quite well yesterday and there were signs of a partnership growing and he scored again.

I take your points Ryan but ffs pal ... Get over it.

I think if we play better with Andy in the side, then it is great. My main worry was we'd start playing hoof ball and loose out on the nice brand of football we have played under Kenny. Keep the ball on the deck most the time, use him as another option should equal a well balanced effective side.

Did we play hoof ball tonight? We did play some long passes, but they were that, passes. He did alright tonight but he can offer so much more. Stick with it I say.
