Big Andy

I like Andy Carroll. I watched him a lot at Newcastle and I wanted him long before we were rumoured to be in for him.
Im a liverpool and England fan and I dream of Carroll being a monster for both of them.
I like what he brings to the team and we havnt yet begun to play to his strengths.
His first touch is being massively overblown as the fact is he hasnt had much football. He has a decent first touch and it will improve with game time, however the important thing about Andy Carroll will ALWAYS be his second touch.
He isnt going to beat 3 players, he isnt going to dribble all over the place. He will shift the ball and fucking lamp it (usually on target) thats what he does and thats what made him the top scorer in the premiership before he came to us.
When we get better at feeding him the ball and his touch comes back to him, he will be beast for us.......and as ive been banging on about Suarez looks better, happier and more potent with him in the side.
He's just a boy. A 22 year old boy. And he has scored goals in the top flight consistently. Lets have a little faith.

He's the 2011 version of Heskey, or Crouch if you will.

Before you all start acting like cunts - I don't hate him. I just wanted him to be someone else, I.e. Someone world class - which we could have got for 35 million quid. Instead we've got someone who, like crouch and heskey, people will forever have to roll stats out about to justify his presence. Starts to wins, partnerships, knock downs, etc etc. Nobody ever rolls out stats about Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney cos you don't need to. They're world class and their brilliance is evident to the eye.

the draw back for playing two up front (suarez and carroll) is when we do this it means 4 in midfield and when this happens we look a little soft through the middle. when we had 5 across the midfield plus torres we look potent in attack and solid in midfield this is more than likely why crouch didn't get a look in.

we've already seen this season tha adam looks a lot more assured in a CM 3. to be truly effective using 4-4-2 we need a more mobile/dominant holding midfielder or we need to improve our play down the flanks.

[/quote]Suarez can comfortably play wide left in a front 3 or in the hole as the AM in a midfield 3.
Playing carroll doesnt mean 4-4-2

Andy - don't move your best players around to accommodate lesser ones. Suarez is our best player by a fucking mile and playing in his best position, keep him there.

Yeah I agree, though it's fair to point out that Suarez pulls play all over the place anyway, he likes to roam so having Carroll up top with Suarez roaming around is more than adequate in the absence of Gerrard. That said, once Gerrard returns it's a no brainer.

I do think he's looked better (and fitter) of late though, the bit of play where Suarez chested it down and he ran onto the ball, showed a good touch and then volleyed it was more like what we want to see from him, for too many games he's trudged around like a player who either can't be arsed or didn't have the stamina to get there. On Saturday he was busting a gut to get into positions and showing good movement. That's more like it.

All this solidity in midfield wank counts for nothing when you end up drawing at home against Norwich and Sunderland. When Carroll starts we've been better, scored more and won.

My earlier point remains even with the return of gerrard, we look soft through the middle when we employ 4-4-2. When we go to up front we lose solidity in the middle of the park and I think that's a problem.

I don't think we did on Saturday, and despite the calls for being more attacking at home, the reality is we missed Lucas against Norwich, because no one else was willing to cover ground and put a boot in. We looked alot more controlled in the centre on Saturday, Carroll chased and harried more and both he and Suarez were dropping off to help the midfield, while having Skrtel and Agger at centre back helped in us maintaining possession a bit more.

Spider, that midfield solidity you talk about (whilst valid) is only required against about 5 teams in this league.

Consistently... for six months. The majority of his goals came in the Championship.

I do agree he should get a run in the team, though.

that's a fair point.

You're better when you just copy what I say Spidey. Don't go off conjuring up your own theories, just wait til I post them, then re-post them in 700 more words Tomkins-style 3 weeks later like you used to.
