Sorry mate, my post was a 'back up' to what you said mate.
I got your point. Yeah, I think Coyle has had to balance playing Lee, Taylor, Wilsher & Weiss and Weiss has come off the worst. He hasn't played one full game for Bolton since he went there.

Ah right I see. I suppose the fact that Lee has done well for Bolton made it difficult to shoe-horn Weiss in as well. He's never going to get a look in at City, I wonder if it might be worth our while making a sneaky £5m offer.

For that money in a heartbeat. He's really fast with that in-built instinct to attack the FBs all the time. He reminds me of Lennon for Spurs in some respects.

Edit: here he is torturing Evans against NI-

Vladimir Weiss vs Jonny Evans

Brazil to beat Spain.

England semis.
Seconded, though IMO England are one of a small number of teams who could just sneak it if either (or both) of Brazil and Spain have a bad day and get knocked out earlier.

Ha ha ha, Evans was roasted there.
He tortured Evans and our entire backline (he likes to drift from flank to flank) all night. It was tough to watch.

we probably have the best manager in the tournament and one of the top strikers so we can win it. I hope we go out to score shit loads as we have in the qualifiers as that will reduce the chance of horror penalty shoot outs.

Mind you the only penalty shoot out I can ever remember us winning was against Spain so you never know.

Capello, Rooney, Stevie - England to win !!!!

England don't have the centre halfs to win the World Cup. BJT will probably fuck up in the QFs.
Therer's a shortage of really good ones generally these days. I'm not sure England are more seriously affected than anybody else and, if any manager can devise ways of coping with this, Capello can. He's the main reason England have an outside chance.

Capello said he would pick on form so surely Dawson will play instead of either Rio if he is injured or Terry.

Imagine Stevie g lifting the world cup, NICE !!!

Yea, Capello is England's best hope of finding a way to hide the team's shortcomings. I don't think it'll be enough though, England aren't good enough at keeping the ball.

Germany = Metzelder & Mertsacker
Brazil = Lucio and Luisao
Spain = Puyol & Pique

Alliteration seems to be the way to go with CB pairings at this world cup, England need to find another centre back beginning with T or F quickly.

That said, none of the 3 pairings above inspire confidence, neither do Gallas & Boumsong of France or the Dutch CB's whose names have escaped me, so I don't think England can be singled out for being dodgy in that postion.

It's not that the centre halfs are a lot worse than everyone else's but I always think England needs really good centre halves because the team loses the ball a lot and doesn't have a top notch defensive midfielder.

You'd have thought so, but yesterday evening on the radio Martin Keown was saying he wouldn't take Dawson because Dawson has next to no international experience. I'd sooner see him in there than Upson personally, but I suspect Upson has a better chance of going.

that's handy, and with inesta and xavi that is a spine that is familiar with each other.

Surprise package apart from a random African team (Cameroun aside who won't even make it beyond the groupstages) --->

Chile.

edit: nevermind
Ha!

They'll qualify from their group and then who knows what'll happen. I've seen them play a few times and they are like a team full of Xavi and Iniesta types. (Obviously not as good as those two but you'll get me drift).

Skillful, fast, pacy little players than can prove a handful for quite a lot of teams.

England's obvious Achilles heel is the goalkeeper, surely?

Gene's right about the inability to keep possession though. Strange, given the number of super-experienced CL players in their team, but it always seem to be true all the same.

not a chance mate.

Henry has been ruled out of the World Cup now, apparently he turned to drugs after being made a bit of an outcast in the French squad because of his handball/juggling against us.

Here's the pic:

Did you know Brazil won the World Cup while Marcos played through the entire tournament with a broken wrist ?

The goalkeeper position is a problem, but I think the real Achilles heal is the lack of a decent centre forward (or perhaps the fact that we won't pick someone who is at least half suited to the job *and* can score goals).

The inability to control a game and maintain possession is the one of the main reasons this England team has underachieved for so long and the #1 reason we failed to quality for the Euros.

So we're in agreement then. England's achilles heel is its centre-halves, goalkeeper, attack and inability to keep the ball or control games.

Nope.

It's the fact that England's players are drawn almost exclusively from the working classes.
