Hopefully.

Anything's possible with an in form Rooney.

You know what, I'm not sure they will, but I'd love to see the looks on so many people's faces if we did win it. Several of us on here will be intolerable! Frank Leboeuf will have nothing on me!

In the shittest world cup ever shock victory by the USA..... a la the greeks at euro 2004.

Or.... in the flukiest tournament ever England scrape it

Or in all likelihood España.

I'll plump for Spain, they are too good for 90% of the teams in there and they are just better than all the ones they are not too good for.

... but then they do have the tougher half of the draw...

and gerrard who was obviously saving himself for the world cup 😉

Italy to frustrate teams and nick a succession of wins.

The surprise package to be Ivory Coast.

If England win I'm going to join some secluded monastery for however long it will take for English people to stop bleating about it.

And considering Motson slips 1966 into every England commentary ever that means I'll have to end my days there.

There are some quite obvious candidates out there but a bold guess could be France.

They know how to win it and in Ribery, Benzema, Gourcouff, Henry, Evra, Zagna, Nasri, Gomis and Ben Arfa they surely do have enough quality around to make a few upsets. And with Lyon, Marseille and Boredeaux playing as well as they've been doing this Season there should be enough quality around to fill in when needed.

I'm going to have a wager on the Kermit-lovers.

Surprise package apart from a random African team (Cameroun aside who won't even make it beyond the groupstages) --->

Chile.

Yeah, I think England have a chance in this one, I do.
Rooney is the key obviously, but an in form & fit Lennon could be huge to how England play.
His pace on the right is electric and he will destroy most left backs.

I'd like to see Argentina win it, I have my Argy jersey ready to go!

I'm most interested in how the Argies will do. A squad blessed with immense talent (including the magical Messi), excellent world cup pedigree and a fucking lunatic of the highest order at the helm.

I'd love to see Maradona should they reach the finals. He'd be an absolute loose canon.

Spain.

but i'll also put a word in for England because we've got a good draw and a fantastic coach - Italy proved last time you don't have to be brilliant to win it if you get a bit of luck.

My surprise team is Slovakia, they finished top of their qualifying group which included Poland and Czech Republic (as well as Doc Mac's mighty NI) and they are a solid unit. Imagine if Czech would have qualified, they would be about 50/1 whereas Slovakia are 420/1 (Betfair). Apart from our own Martin Skrtel thay have a kid who is on loan at Bolton (from Man City) Vladimir Weiss who could really make a name for himself at this tournament.

How many of those players 'know how to win a World Cup'?

Great play on Sat for Davies goal.

No chance. They've got THE worst manager in the history of international football. And, unlike the last WC, they don't have Zidane anymore.

I don't think they'll be quite as bad as the French expect them to be, but there's no way they'll win the tournament.

Weiss took us apart single-handedly. He was very, very good. Isn't he the coach's son or something too?

I was surprised he hasn't had a look in for Citeh, despite their embarrassment of riches- he looked *that* good.

I agree and will be betting against them (at big odds) not to qualify from their group.

Brazil and Spain will be kept apart until the final should they both win their groups. I think/hope they both make it there as it would be a great match. Brazil to win it after counter attacking the shit outta Spain in the final!!!!

I was even more surprised when Coyle took him to Bolton and kept him on the bench until last weeks game, it was such a waste of talent.
I don't think Coyle has played him that much tbh.
Wilshere has played nearly every game.
That was my point Stu, Coyle took him to Bolton and then hardly used him, Weiss must have been so frustrated.
