Barry

I was reading a bit on Barry on the BBC and this is quite interesting:

Graham Taylor believes Barry could be put off joining a Champions League club by the knowledge that might not be guaranteed a place in their starting XI.

"He'll be aware that there's nothing more important than playing first-team football in a World Cup year," added Taylor.

"At Aston Villa it's almost certain that he would be a first-team regular. I think he would be at Manchester City, but I'm not so certain that would be the case at Liverpool."

If they persist with three in the middle, it'll be Barry, De Jong / Kompany (maybe move him into defence) and Ireland.
That's the way it'll probably pan out but where does that leave Fernandes, Johnson, Hamann, and Elano. They're decent-ish players to have rotting in the reserves.

Their Midfield, Striker and Goalkeeper are now top four material.
Elano is currently a squad player who can play out wide anyways, but he's long been rumoured to leave.

Fernandes isn't very good.

Hamann is on his last legs and will probablyleave.

Johnson hasn't been seen for a long time and is rumoured to be fat and out of shape after partying and what not.
He has already left according to the thread on here about his gambling debts

I guess that puts the end on C&B's Summer visit of this site, and leaves us with no rival fans for a while...

No, we've still got Nornirongooner and Le Chacal.

First I heard about it. He's bound to leave anyway.

Didn't want to start a thread about it, but anyway...
Fucking hell. I'll be gutted if thats true. I thought that lad stood for something.

Milan confirmed a bid earlier today alright, no official acceptance though.

One rumour has the bid at 50m + Schneider and Robben.

rediculous.

Hmm, I have my doubts regarding Barry being Rafas main transfer target. Then we'd surley have matched the 12 mill. We have the money.

This hopefully means Xabi stays. If not its a very risky idea replacing him with a 20 year old, Martinez.

Does this mean Barry looks like a cunt? Yes. But I kinda understand him. He doesnt want a repeat of last years scenario. And if hes agent says there arent any interest from top 4 clubs, doubling your wages isnt that bad when your 28. The only thing is the cl footie comment, that will stick to him like fungus. Fuck it, I hope City have another crap season. They can sign anyone, but they still have to be a team.

It's AC Milan. They'd fucking bend over and say they loved it if you offered more than a few quid for their players, they are so desperate...and then sign Ronaldinho. And Beckham. And Nobby Stiles.

Can we have 20m +huntelaar and Van der vart for Alonso?

We have GOT to keep the spine of the team - Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Mascherano, Kuyt, Alonso, Gerrard & Torres (I would also add Benayoun, Aurelio, Arbeloa and Insua) and get fucking class players to fill the gaps (and a good second striker).

No more messing around, the 4-2-3-1 works with the current key players so why try and swap Alonso for Barry, Martinez etc.

It really is. They'd be mad not to take it.

Javi Martinez is better than Gareth Barry, its merely a question of how soon can he settle. I have no doubts he would be fantastic. He's my equivalent of saric to khl I guess.
Yup its looking like he's the contingency plan isnt it? I hope youre right about it, id like Derossi or aquilani if Alonso was to go. Hopefully it wont come to that.

De Rossi would be fantastic. He would cost the same as if not more than Alonso though.

He's fucked himself over.

Zero ambition.
You could argue he's shown a lot of ambition by taking a gamble that the world's richest club will break into the big time during his time there. After all, we've won nothing for three seasons now so coming to us to win trophies is no sure thing either. It will be much easier to judge when the transfer window is closed and we see who City have also signed. I think we should be a little worried by this.

With Hughes in charge, City are gonna win fuck all. City can sign all the superstars in the world, until they have a decent manager I,m not concerned.

*dons Sheik's hat and wags finger*

but we're Liverpool football club etc etc..

If Rafa had any intention of selling Alonso he would have made a last minute bid for Barry, he clearly didn't as the transfer wouldn't have gone through so quicky if he had.

Anyway, Barry probably didn't know who he was signing for, he does seem to have his eyes shut most of the time.

He wanted Champions League football though. And he won't get it for another couple of years at least and by that time he'll be on a zimmerframe.

Well, if his main motivation for selling Alonso was financial gain, then an adequate replacement other than Barry surely wouldn't make it worthwile.
