Last night was the beginning of the end for the Mancs.

Watch this space.

No.... been waiting too fucking long for that... what last night was was a little glimpse of justice, the king really doesn't have any clothes.

All that is bad about United was paraded for the watching millions.

Fucking wonderful, magical game.

On a more tactical note, have you ever seen two teams more oddly set up?

United seemed to be playing with just Carrick in midfield, with the two players up front, Ronaldo and Giggs, so far apart it was painful to watch, and was Giggs supposed to be playing behind Ronaldo? It was a fucking mess.

As for Barca, well, I actually agree with a few posters. I reckon we'd have beaten them. And can anyone explain to me what formation *they* were playing?

Henry and Eto'o were playing on the left and the right, with Messi central supporting the lone striker. Except they didn't have one.

It was 4-1-4-1-0

41212? I'd have said Eto'o and Henry were strikers in that formation, but with wide starting positions, and Messi was the no 10/playmaker. That's more or less the standard formation in France.

It was.

Tevez is leaving, Ronaldo could be leaving, Giggs and Scholes are aging and they are in desperate need for a new top-class central midfielder in my opinion.

IF Ronaldo leaves I can't see United win anything for the next couple of years really - even i he stays they could struggle as they'll have to rebuild in pivotal areas of the team.

I'm not convinced that any of Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs or Scholes holds their key to future success.

They were never in the box!

The only chances they had were generated from cutting in from either flank.

So? Torres cuts in from out wide for about half of his goals. They don't play with a standard no 9, it's true, but I don't think the formation is that unusual really.

The disadvantage of the diamond formation in midfield is that it gives you no width: Eto'o and Henry provided that width. Both got in the box and both had shots on target. And Eto'o scored. It worked - a lot better than United's somehow non-attacking 424 formation in the second half.

Watch the video of his 50 goals again.

EDIT: Oops, just watched it myself - only 13 out of 50 came from wide. So a quarter, basically.

Oh well. It was fun to watch all the goals again.

I thought it was a stroke of genius by Pep Guardiaola to more or less withdraw his three forwards/strikers into midfield and then instead steadily pass it around - and in between - the Mancs untill gaps appeared.

That completely minimized Vidic and Ferdinand's obvious physical advantage as there weren't anyone around them untill they were actually found standing on their heels inside their own penaltyarea.

Brilliant.

And what's even more brilliant is the way United died without a fight last night. They simply recapitulated in the most embarrassing mannor.
They always play that way. They keep the ball and pass it left to right and back again, then when theyve passed you to death someone makes a quick break off the back and is impeccably slid in. The first was a very typical Barca goal. They NEVER get numbers in the box, thats just the way they play.

Eto'o's usually more central though, isn't he? And Messi usually plays on the right.

I wouldn't call the right or left hand side of the box "out wide".
Yep. Eto'o plays wide usually against the better teams, but 9 times out of ten hes the central striker. The weird thing is he usually drifts out wide right, and Messi comes infield anyway, so its much of a muchness. But yeah Messi usually starts out right.

The greasy waiter speaketh:

(sour grapes included)

Cristiano Ronaldo felt Manchester United's tactics were 'not good' during the club's 2-0 defeat by Barcelona in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

United set out at the Stadio Olimpico with the same formation which overcame Arsenal in the semi-finals, with Ryan Giggs replacing the suspended Darren Fletcher.

However, after a positive start, the Premier League champions failed to recover from conceding a 10th minute Samuel Eto'o goal and were outplayed for the remainder of the game.

Sir Alex Ferguson altered his tactics at half-time by bringing on Carlos Tevez for Anderson, but the change failed to improve United's performance.

Ronaldo started the match up front before moving out to the wing and the Portuguese ace felt 'everything went wrong'.

"I cannot explain," he told RTP. "We, the players, were not well, the tactics were not good... everything went wrong.

"We have to give credit to Barcelona, but they were a bit lucky to be here because Chelsea did not deserve to lose and no-one has mentioned that.

"I have to congratulate Barcelona, they were better, but football is just like this: only the winners get talked about."

Future
The former Sporting Lisbon man also refused to comment on his future amid fresh reports linking Real Madrid with a renewed interest in his services.

He added: "My future now is the national squad, so that we can win, so that we can be in a good position in our qualifying group.

"About clubs, I do not want to talk about that, I want to rest, go on holiday, I am very tired, I have played a lot of games, a lot of pressure.

"The future, we will see."

What a lovely performance from Barca last night. They seemed to play with a bit more urgency than against Chelsea and showed more penetration. The way they rotate their play through different phases of attack to work the extra man over is a joy to watch. Its just a shame on a couple of occasions the extra man was Puyol and not someone who would have made the net bulge. Oh well id have settled for 2-0 before the game 🙂

Definitely. They could do with shooting more often, so as to draw the CBs out, but like other pretty teams, they want to score pretty goals.

Way too early, mate. We've been there so many times and Ferguson kept bouncing back.
Never write him off.

Man Utd fan kills four in Nigeria
A Manchester United fan in Nigeria killed four people when he drove his minibus into a crowd of Barcelona supporters after his team lost the Champions League final, police said today.

The crowd in the town of Ogbo were celebrating Barcelona's victory after last night's match when the bus drove into them. A police spokeswoman said 10 people were injured and the driver was arrested.

"The driver had passed the crowd then made a U-turn and ran into them," she said.

Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in what was hailed as a "dream final" between two of Europe's best clubs. Both teams have large fan bases in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

Gracious in defeat as ever i see.

Poor fecker. He'd have a public campaign going on for his release if he was a scouser, criticising the Nigerian legal system for not being up to Western standards.
