The Reds face two matches in as many days at the Allianz Arena this week, with Bayern Munich up first on Tuesday evening, followed by a clash with either Atletico Madrid or Napoli.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that both Gomez and Origi will play no part in the tournament, with the young defender missing because of a knee problem and Origi out with a muscle issue.

Gomez’s injury gives Trent Alexander-Arnold a wonderful chance to make the right-back spot his own, ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Watford on August 12.

With Nathaniel Clyne expected to miss the trip to Vicarage Road, and Gomez now also struggling, the teenager could make just his third Premier League start against the Hornets.

It will be fascinating to see how Alexander-Arnold fares against Bayern, with the likes of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery sure to test his credentials.

On a more positive note, Klopp has confirmed that Loris Karius, Dejan Lovren and James Milner are all now available, but he confirmed that Danny Ings is still being wrapped in cotton wool, following two cruciate ligament injuries.

“He is in a really good way and we are very pleased with what he is doing,” he added.
“But it is smart and responsible for him that we allow him maximum time and sessions—both individually and with the team. “So maybe not involved in the matches just yet but that means nothing more than we take our time and make him strong and ready to be a part of what we are going to do.”

Looking forward to the Challenge tonight. We need to be off the pace early in the game and press Bayern all over the pitch. It will give a good answer on were we are 1,5 week before the season start for real. I hope we see a kind of starting XI tonight, but understand that the players that Plays tonight will be rested tomorrow. Still it is important for players to find the rythm together.

Ming - TAA, Matip, Klavan, Robertson - Can, Lallana, Couth - Mane, Firmino, Salah

Coutinho, Mane, Salah and Firmino all set to start tonight

Frightening attack. Frightening defence too.

Will we just end up doing a 13/14 season and just go all out and play all out attack?

Itv are fucking dreadful.

Has the match started & we can't watch it, or have they delayed it cos their cameras aren't working?

They haven't even explained it properly.

I mean he didn't get the ball, but he looked like a seagull flying across the screen as Phil picked up the ball there.

Fuck me. That scoreline is not only huge they've inexplicably put it right in the centre of the picture.

[rant]
Why the fuck isn't it standard to have smaller scoreline graphics cos people's tvs are now twice as big as they were, & why isn't also standard to have semi transparent graphics so if they do impede the action you don't actually miss it?!

An electrical storm was meant to have cut the feed. Allegedly.
