So saw the goal he scored at the weekend obviously but has anyone been following his progress there more closely this season?

I never quite understood the situation with Assaidi. He may not be a world beater but he seemed to have a positive impact a few times when brought on as a sub and worse players than he have been afforded the luxury of time to be shit at Anfield. Odd!

I guess the current disappointment with Moses makes you question the loaning out of guys like Assaidi and Borini (even though they were generally regarded as dispensable during the summer).

I wouldn't have minded keeping both, but it's easy to say now we've got a few injuries. Before that they wouldn't have got a look and, even now, would probably only be looking at playing a bit part.

They've both scored a cracking goal each so far, let's see how they go over the next month or so. As far Moses goes, there's nothing worse than watching a player who should be doing everything he can to impress, looking lazy, erratic and generally out of his depth. What happened is anyone's guess, but he wouldn't be the first young, quick, exciting attacker to get found out soon enough.

He looks like he would have had a successful career 30 years ago.

You've said this from the off about him, he looks headless, blah blah. He's looked pretty exciting on quite a few of his outings, he's also looked a bit of a passenger, but he's clearly got some talent.

assaidi strange player - bizarre signing. looks immensely talented at times, but then a bit lost. i would rather have kept him than sign moses.

He had a great season at herenveen before he came to us and I was shocked we got him so cheap. I also felt he gave a good account of himself the little chance he got.

That's the second time he's done that for stoke btw. Think it was a cup game against Birmingham the first time. Maybe Rodgers just doesn't like the look of him in training.

Assaidi needs space and time on the ball. He's had trouble adjusting to the pace of the premiership.
I've seen him play for Morocco a couple of times as well and his performances have been disappointing. His close control and technique is great, but he just seems lost tactically.
I've said it before he looks like a five-a-side player, but I mean there's always room for improvement.
Hughes will most likely give him a few more starts now, let's just wait and see.

A few of my mates who are regulars at Stoke have said they can see he's got skill and is good on the ball but that too often he just runs in a straight line down the wing and either out of play or into opposition players. That being said they seem to be having someone a bit unpredictable after the last dew years of Pulis fayre

Consistent end product is an issue for him and the defensive side of his game, some of his shooting and crossing was powder puff.

Talented player though, he definately has something though i can't see him ever being more than a bit part player for us.

Carra called him a Monday to Friday player on sky.
Brilliant in training but a passenger in a game.
He's all a bit El Zhar to me.

When he's played for us that is actually what has been absent ! Losing the ball because of a lack of control when trying to go past players. That and looking like he doesn't have a clue what to do next.

Pass, sell, whatever, he's never going to be good enough for us.

It's the tempo, like I said, he needs time on the ball. Just have a look at his youtube clips, if it's something he possesses it's technique.

I could do that too if you slowed the game down to a snail's pace for me 😉 You have to be able to perform at the pace the PL is played at - simply put he can't, so like you say the tempo is just too high for him.

true

Putting his transfer here into context - when he arrived, we had already lost or were losing Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi. Sterling and Suso hadn't played a single senior minute, and all we had left for the wide positions were Downing and Henderson as part of the supporting cast, with both struggling badly and Henderson being a questionable fit in that position.

I don't think there's anything strange/stupid to the transfer at all - we needed a quick-fix to beef up the position and we gambled on someone who had returned two solid seasons in the Dutch league. For the relatively small fee we paid for him, it was a roll of the dice to see if the bandage worked. Suso and Sterling deserve a lot of credit for emerging and leapfrogging Assaidi while Downing also showed some improvement over his first season under Kenny, especially in the second half of the season. If Assaidi's arrival provided the competition that helped accelerate those occurrences, then it hasn't been a bad thing, especially for the relatively low price we paid.

He was at the u21's yesterday watching.

I always thought he was a moneyball signing, a cheap pickup we could make our money back on if it doesn't work.

Mourinho on Lukaku:

“I’m happy that he’s scoring goals against our direct rivals. He doesn’t score against us because he can’t,” Mourinho said.
“It’s phenomenal that you have a player that, even though he’s not scoring for you, he’s scoring against you opponent.

Sure he's got talent, but then so does every footballer in the Premier League Mark.

Being able to run down a wing and throw a few stepovers, crosses and shots in as a sub don't make you a top footballer though.

He'll never ever ever make it a big club on a consistent basis. He's just not a good enough footballer.

What about picking up the ball up around half-way against the Chavs, and hitting a wonderful inch-perfect shot into the top corner of the goal earning your side victory? That looked like being good at football in the kind of way lots of our players aren't.

Charlie Adam, another one of your favourites, could do that once a season too.

He sits beside Assaidi on the bench at Stoke.

He scored one in every four games in Holland. That may be Holland, but it does suggest he can score. I'll ignore the sanctimonious twattiish jibe that is your trademark.

I wasn't trying to be twattish.

My point is he doesn't do that often enough, which is why he's an impact sub at a lower table side. Sure he can whip one into the top corner, but so can anyone in the Premier League really.

It is also the case that you have based your pronouncements on this lad based on seeing a small handful of mainly brief showings: the same as the rest of us. Most others have the sense, and humility to realise they haven't enough info on which to properly assess the lad. But no, not Ryan. He has the measure of him, because he's just so knowledgable and can suss a player with his superhuman capabilities.

That's mostly true.
