ASHES - 2015!

As controversial as this post may be.... Watson might as well have his legs amputated. All the practice in the world isn't going to save him from lbw decisions

MCG SEAGULL TO REPLACE WATSON AT No. 6

For context:

I'm quite looking forward to Lyon coming in to bat. I rather fancy Cook to throw the ball to Stokes, and we'll soon see if the wee twerp has quite so much to say for himself with the ball flying up by his throat.

I'm pleased we have held that sort of thing at bay, and just stuck to the plans. Wood to Watson for example - lots of antipathy there, but he got him out beautiful by enticing him across his crease wide of off stump and then from very wide of the crease angling in a full ball for the lbw. I'm sure the lbw dismissal hurt Watson a lot more than if Wood took his head off!

This Lyth cunt is a tidy pair of hands. Mark Nicholas on Aussie commentary is gutted Johnson has gone now. I'm surprised the cunt can still talk with his mouth so full of Aussie spunk. The fucking ponce.

'To be perfectly honest, I can't see England getting close to us'.

-Steve Smith, about a week ago, probably feeling a bit of a cunt now.

Excellent win for England. Well done to Cook, he's not a natural captain but he's now trying really hard and got most decisions right in this match.

Brilliant performance! I don't know where to begin. Outplayed all the way through. I will say though Haddin's drop on Root's second ball in hindsight looks a proper turning point.

What a performance - really enjoyed that
Having reread through the thread enjoyed Ryans predictions almost as much, which without fail were completely wrong,

I know - On commentary today I heard Haddin has averaged 15 with the bat in his last 10 tests. I know he has/had talent but he is 37. I respect the player he was but hope the player he is plays at Lords....

Ryan said he was great in the WC, but there is a massive difference in concentrating behind the wickets for two innings of 100 or so overs within a few days, and a 50 over one-dayer.

Yep that was pointed out yesterday as well. Problems problems for the Aussies...... He he he 😀

He's been a good wicket keeper for longer than the last WC, but agreed - he's looking past it now. There's bugger all else to come in though, Wade hasn't come on the way they'd hoped.

Watson will get the shepherd's hook for Marsh.

They will come back at us hard - no question about it, and we are one collapse away from a shoeing. However, the Aussies are not as good as they think they are and if we continue with this disciplined but aggressive style of cricket they could be in for another surprise

Prefer Siddle every day of the week. Lost heaps of pace and will be ineffective if we serve up a similar pitch. Cummings is quality.

Cummings hasn't played since the 2nd of May at the ipl, to come in at Lords with its idiosyncratic slope without any experience or overs other than in the nets would be really difficult for him. I don't think he played in the warm ups so I would have thought they would bring in Siddle, who did play

If Starc does go out, it'll be Siddle. Cummins is the better bowler and is a terrific long-term prospect (he took a Michelle in his first Test in South Africa a few years back) but he's had a badly interrupted 2-3 years with injury, and is too raw.

Besides, Siddle can be relied upon for a decent run-rate and some steady line and length which the Aussies need more of after giving away runs through the wayward left-handers in the opening test.

All that said, Starc will play even if he’s only 50% fit. He’s their best bowler, he’s a wicket-taker, and word is that his injury isn’t as bad as first thought.

Well, the Aussies usually love the Lords test, so it is the perfect venue for them to come back into the series. Should be more life in the pitch too.

Great test match. Really tees up the series well. I love Mark Wood, what a great addition to the side. He has that great mix of aggression and competence. In coming years I think he will prove to be deadly with a new ball.

Ryan, as an ex footballer you would know a bit more about this from an injury point of view, but Stark had pain killing injections ( cortisone ) in his ankle in order to bowl, doesn't this just mask the problem and risk the chances of him escalating the problem into something more long term?
I had a cortisone injection in my achilles a few years back and the dr said he couldn't give another for 6 months

I did a bit of reading around the Starc / Cummings / Siddle thing. It's a proper dilemma for the Aussies. Starc is definitely the most competent (and was very impressive in Cardiff - despite his injury) He is nursing an injury though so in a different set up someone else would come in and he would be rested for Lords. The alternatives - Siddle (steady but lacking in pace) or Cummings (a great prospect but wildly lacking in control) Either way whatever choice they make would be very telling.

I predict Starc will be wheeled out. The guy is a trooper and a wicket taker. They are a test down so they really don't want to be fucking about.

It depends on the injury. The cortisone just masks the problem temporarily - I should know, I had dozens when I was playing - so it's all down to how badly fucked or inflamed his ankle really is.

Yeah I agree, but in reality they held England to a good score in the first innings and bowled them out well in their second. Sure England made decent totals, but the Aussies took twenty wickets.

If they had have batted with any authority they'd have drawn the game without any fuss. So the bowling's not the issue really. Watson's fucking gone, everyone knows it, you can't dangle that fucking front pad out for 6 years running and not expect to get fucked out of the side. Marsh will come in, and I'd daresay this will be Chris Rodgers last shot too. If he doesn't perform at Lords he's gone.

Good point about them taking 20 wickets. Not to be sniffed at given the conditions and the wicket. Starc really does look good. Lords will be a different prospect and nothing at all like Cardiff. They really need him there. I still fancy England though. They will be well used to the slope and conditions. If it rolls onto the Monday I'm going. 🙂

Bit harsh on Rodgers - he got 95 in the first innings! He is nearly eligible for his pension though. Haddin looked a problem to me - much less athletic than the last Ashes, keeping wicket is the hardest job on the field, incredibly hard on the thighs, but I can't see him being dropped
