ASHES - 2015!

Yes 400 would be par.
We wont get to 400.
Like I said I think its only slightly their day. I worry about taking 20 wickets simply because Broad hasnt been very good for quite a while. I dont think our attack is very good at all.
Remains to be seen but I can see them batting for two days.
I get your trepidation - But Ali and Broad can bat. 343 with three wickets left - 400 is acheiveable. The ball will hoop like a bastard tomorrow so I expect them all out before too long. That's ok thogh because Anderson, Broad and the much underestimated Wood will tear through them. 🙂

Simon Jones was ridiculously unlucky with injuries. He was as good as any of the English pace attack and should have gone on from 2005 to become a fearsome bowler. Such a shame.
Man that guy could swing a cherry! He was virtually unplayable for a time. A shame indeed 🙁

Broad is definitely showing signs of getting back up there. Whilst a little expensive, he took loads of wickets against the Windies and New Zealand including a five wicket haul. I think the inconsistent bounce will help him out in this pitch, and I half fancy him to be England's highest wicket taker in this game.

A good call. With conditions at Cardiff though (overcast and moist outfield) Jimmy is going to boss it I reckon. Perfect for him. Reverse and authodox swing?! It could be a great day! We'll see.

I love your optimism boys.
My support for England is very much like my support for England at football. Too much fucking misery for me to think we will win even a session. I take every ball we dont lose a wicket as a victory.

Hopefully yous are right. And ill come out to lunch tomorrow and we are still ploughing away.

Yeah, Anderson is the obvious choice for blowing the Aussies away and he certainly is favourite with these conditions. I just feel that if they're struggling with Anderson's swing they may look to get after Broad– and if he keeps it straight, then I can see him taking advantage. Be interesting to see what Wood does too. I like him.

Ha! I know what you mean fella - It's why I love cricket though. You never really know what could happen. Let's hope fate swings (no pun intended) Englands way tomorrow. 🙂

That's the bruised and bloodied post of many an Ashes veteran. The track is flat, and if your attack is all about pace, then it looks pretty docile. However, there was great signs of the ball swinging throughout which may give the England attack the edge. The Aussies didn't use that swing very well, and you'd have to fancy Anderson and Broad making better use of it. I may be wrong, but if the ball swings tomorrow like it did today, England will penetrate deep into the Aussie batting order.

spot on

This Mark Wood looks similar with skiddy pace, I think he could be effective on this pitch.

He took 7 for 80 odd in the county match he played recently so hopefully he is in top form. I just hope we bowl with a bit more control than the Aussies

Indeed. They were very wayward. I'm slightly reticant to say it but the fearsome Aussie pace attack looked anything but.

If you're 34-3 and go on to finish the day with 340 odd for 7, then it's your day. They'll make 400 from here, and then they're in control.

Haddin dropping Root on zip was the moment. Not like Haddin either, he's a good keeper, I think it just shocked him coming so early into Root's innings.

First time a few of those Australian bowlers have bowled on a dry nothing England pitch, so they'll be the better for it.

Root as I mentioned earlier is a glorious batsman. Great footwork, timing, and plays off the back foot well. Lovely patient batsman. But if he can make a ton on that track, then Steve Smith will make 200.

@Ryan - Haddin had a good day. There were so many wayward balls that it was amazing that the bys were only 16. He looks old and hampered to me. I know he can bat but I know out of the two wicket keepers who I'd have.

I rate Haddin, always have. He just dropped a big one. No getting away from that mate.

Did you watch him at the World Cup? He was outstanding.

Maybe but at nearly 38 he's going to be feeling it today, hope we can keep him in the field as long as possible. Anyways its his batting I'm more concerned about coz he save your arse several times in the last Ashes. Having said that he hasn't had a score for ages.

We left last summer with 1 big plus and 1 major focus.

Plus: Ballance and Root proving to be match winners and immediate key players in the side
Focus: The rest of the top order is fragile

I know its one innings but we showed yet again that we have some very fragile players in there. Bell for one - on form he's great (but isnt everyone when on form..) , i just don't know who is an option to step into the batting line up should we need to bolster other than Bairstow which would need some rejigging of the order..

I fancy our bowlers on this pitch, we showed against NZ that we are learning to bowl straighter and fuller which on this pitch is exactly what we need. I'm with Doc Mac in thinking Broady will turn up. He was very good versus NZ and I'm a massive fan of Wood too.

This is heading for a draw...a result Australia would probably take now and England would have taken this time yesterday.

Can't see what was wrong with Stark's send off to Stokes. Marlon Samuels salute send off to Stokes was a brilliant non aggressive retort to some pretty unsavory sledging, shame if the ICC crack down on it.

Well Sunday is probably going to be a big wash out so yeh. A shame as the next two days are ripe bowling conditions.

That was a useful knock from Broad. 395 for 8 - I'm quite happy with that.
