Arsenal (CC) post-match

I'm not sure why we are threatening to pull out. I'd rather we play a team of youngsters, and send Pep to manage the team while we play the super world club thing simultaneously.

It is against the sporting principles to force us to not involve any first-teamers because of a scheduling conflict beyond our control while an opponent to be named doesn't have any restrictions. Hopefully the threat works and we get a date we can use.

Still can't believe we got 35m for Chamberlain. I know he's had injuries but I don't see any progression there at all.
This was the kiss of death. Thanks.

He must have ideas of playing some of the youngesters in the CWC. But yes - does seem that we should at least put a team out rather than give another team a free ride to the semis. And it sounds like the CWC is more important to Klopp than the Carabao Cup which might infuriate the football league.

It should not do i.e. infuriate, as it raises the profile of the English league, by having an english team potentially winning it.

My understanding (might be wrong) is that we physically cannot play the QF unless we keep a second string squad back at home.

If that’s the case, Klopp could’ve chosen his words a bit more wisely. All the headlines are like “Klopp threatens to withdraw”.

As for the Football League they knew we’d be in the CWC so can have no complaints.

Totally agree, i am sure something would have been sorted, but we know this will not end well because Klopp went a bit angry like with his comments, and we know the people in charge dont like that sort of shit from managers.

Of course City got Oxford away. All we can hope is that Brannagan & Woodburn but in some big tackles on their key players.

Oxford vs Man City
Man Utd vs Colchester
Villa vs Liverpool
Everton vs Leicester

Not the worst although we’ll be up against their full strength side so will most likely lose.

They also played a full team of kids last night so you never know. But at least it isn't a major rival meaning we have less on the line if we do weaken the team. Let's see what the timetabling does though as it might take the place of a PL game meaning it doesn't harm us to strengthen the team from last night.

We will 100% play the kids/ ressies again in the next fixture, and they did just enough to earn it. Though I'd think seriously about replacing the ginger dutch kid.

In terms of the game, some observations.

Williams looked a real talent and could well be an understudy TAA.

Elliot already looks ready to be an impact sub.

Jones showed again why I think he’s going to be a star. He’s top class.

Ox wasn’t very good overall but an amazing weapon to have all the same.

Origi proved similar that even when he’s poor he can provide a moment of genius.

Lallana wasn’t very good and our young CB looked massively out depth even for a 17 year old.

Brewster was a concern as he just didn’t look like scoring.

Keita is as reliable as Kewell and continues to be the biggest disappointment we’ve had possibly ever in terms of price, reputation, promise and actual performance. He was shite in a game he should have dominated and then limped off again 🙁

That’s promising although depending on their fixtures they might go stronger. Surely a decent shot at a semi final would mean full strength.

Hard to be too critical but the scouting report that highlighted his weak mentality and resilience before we signed him leads me to believe he has almost no chance of making it. You need those in spades.

Why would it infuriate any officials ? The FA actually asked United to represent them in the equivalent in South America (was it '99?) even though it ended in United dropping out of the FAC. I doubt FIFA would allow us to drop out of the CWC without a ban or serious penalty and we can't play in the CWC and a LC ¼ final on the same night (which is virtually the only date available as it stands).

They will reschedule it for sure.

He's got about 5 years to work on that before it starts to really matter as unless he comes a titan, he won't be considered as a regular starter until he's early 20s i'd expect.

Why should we judge him so harshly when we all know that he wouldn't be playing at all if we had fit center backs, and we all think he's not ready.

He looks not ready, that doesn't mean he won't make it, it means he looks not ready. Gomez last year was a real freak occurrence.

He's built perfectly and has enough technique and positioning to work with. If the worst of his issues is his "mentality" which I'm rolling my eyes at, then good. What better setup could you possibly be in, if you want to hone your mental game?

Some of our injured players will be back for this one. We might even sign a player or two in January who could possibly be in it as well.

Maybe but that’s a trait I’d look for in a player at all ages.

Maybe although I would think if your mentality is that poor at 17 that a scout has to call it, it’s a problem. Hopefully I’m proved wrong but there are so many youth players that seem to struggle with this part of the game and never make it. Gerrard talked about when he first took over the kids.

Could you provide a link to that scout report? I find it weird that a player makes his debut and holds down a regular spot in the Eredivisie at the age of 16 without having the neccessary mentality.

Some summary ratings whilst we wait on Brendan.

Kellaher (5) : Confident, good distribution. No chance with some of the goals but a clear error on the second when he should have just tipped it out or at least to his right.
Milner (5) : The LB area was where a lot of the danger/goals emanated. For once he had a poor match though lacked support.
v.d. Berg (sp.) (3) : Out of his depth yesterday but agree with Farky above.
Gomez (6.5) : I thought he generally had a good game. It wasn't fluent and he gave away a couple of passes however he was running around putting out fires most of the game as our defence folded.
Williams (7) : looked class and as someone mentioned, a good option as back up to TAA. However had a few defensive lapses due to inexperience. Great prospect.
Keita (5) : disappointing, I thought he'd dominate midfield but didn't get forward anywhere near enough.
Lallana (6) : I thought he had a good first half riding tackles and skipping past their midfield whilst trying to thread passes through to the forwards. Went off the boil in the second and misplaced a couple of passes and tackles (though under pressure from being given the ball when he shouldn't have been).
Ox (6) : tried to attack the Arsenal defence but gave away the ball far too much. Cracking goal.
Elliot (6) : I was less impressed than some. He gave away the ball an awful lot and his shooting was very poor. However he has great feet and a sharp mind and did very well for the penalty. Some of his final balls were very poor too. It will come and I've like to see him again soon, exciting prospect even if this wasn't a great game for him. Only 16 FFS, amazing.
Brewster (6) : I'm not as critical as some. He didn't receive much service and ended up coming deeper to pick up the ball. I saw criticism of his pressing game but that's not what I saw. I was actually looking to see if he pressed because I wanted to see what his off the ball game was liked and he was definitely putting in the effort.
Origi (7.5) : Yeah he gave away the ball with a few poor passes and defensively needs to do better but he has great feet when on the ball and was very tricky, almost impossible for them to get the ball off of him. And those two goals were excellent. He isn't a Mane or a Salah but he is clearly effective and knows where the goal is. I'd like to know his goals to minutes ratio, it must be damn good.

Jones (7) : Impressive. Hardly put a foot wrong. Great penalty to win it.
