Bent > Torres
He is actually showing himself to be pretty good. But obviously, no, he isn't better than Torres. I'm pretty sure I never said he was better, but I did say he'd get more goals in the Premiership. Obviously that was unfair to Torres.

At the time though, Torres was in Spain, not scoring bucketfuls and *NOT* playing a No. 9 role.

I don't. He'd be fucking useless

He should play just ahead of Masher and just behind Gerrard

The player 'in the hole' has to score goals. End of cunting story.

Obviously, by 'in the hole' I actually mean 'other striker who plays just behind his strike partner and drops into midfield sometimes'

We've had those players before apparently; Kenny whatsisname and that Beardo fella, I think

Not as good as Gerrard though. Although it's the team combination that counts.
Exactly - whether he's as good as Gerrard there or not is completely irrelevant. Facts are we fucking need SG in CM and Aquilani can do a good job ahead of him.

It would make a reasonable looking team out of us.

He lucked into one CL. He threw the other away with aweful decisions.

He eventuall put a half decent effort on the league after more terrible decisions. Did he learn anything? Did he fuck. Same time of year, same idiotic decisions.

He obviously is amazing at tactical planning, but man management and
adapting aren't things he's good at. Right now unless the yanks free up some cash, it could be a nasty few years.

A second striker who can't score goals, isn't quick, and can't beat players with skill

Sounds like a great idea
when you put it like that it sounds like rafa's IDEAL second striker.

He's never going to score loads in all fairness. I said he'd do a decent job not a brilliant one. Ideally he should be playing behind Gerrard. In fact ideally he'd on the pitch and not gathering splinters in his arse.

Like I said, the fact that he's not a big goalscorer is a limitation, but the dynamic of the team is much more important. You can say the player there has to score loads of goals and act like it's a fact, but it's not *absolutely* a fact. Facts are a team that has balance and scores plenty of goals all together doesn't really give a fuck where the goals come from.

Sounds like he'd slot in most anywhere in the squad right now.

Gerrard hasn't been scoring shitloads in the hole recently though.

No but he hasn't played very much and when he has he hasn't looked fit. Or arsed. I'd prefer to think it's the former.

He won't do with a shit pairing in CM behind him.

Gerrard himself is our best equipped player to sort out our CM problem, which is at the root of all our problems on the pitch - we can't boss the games - we can't get the ball down and start a proper attack. He could do this for us, and then surge further up the pitch as the team does.

Aquilani is quick, neat and inventive - these are the most important things for the player in the hole, as his job is primarily to provide the final ball for whoever is going to score a goal.

Yes, but until the point where he looks sorted, he shouldn't have to be in that position.

What, the site ?

Hmmm....

I think so. I think Benitez's tactics, team selections and lack of desire to get the lads playing normal football has finally destroyed his squad.

We look like we're going downhill, and I expect it'll continue. Although I think Torres getting fit and some fairly simple decisions on Benitez's part would save his bacon

In answer to the thread title question - on the brink of what? A decision regarding the manager's future - quite possibly, by the end of this season if not before. A deep decline? No - there's enough quality even in the current squad, and enough clout behind the Liverpool brand, to keep us from dropping that far.

I think thats about right JJ.

Too many people are buying into this "the end is nigh" talk.

Like I said earlier, people keep tryng to compare a possible decline to Leeds/Newcastle. It probably wont come to that, however dropping to become a top 6/8 team is very possible.

Yeah I'd agree with that.

You're all wrong. The owners are keeping their money for the summer and a new manager. He's gonna have about 65m plus money from sales to spend. We're gonna spend wisely and keep our best players fit next season. There won't be as much rotation as we go all out for the league and win it handsomely.

i can see us being on the brink now, and as all the shit gets pulled over and falls into the sewers the indestructable immortal lucas will remain there. standing in the place where our great club once was

I think that is a reasonable theory Gene.

There is a logic in that as to why they have kept the purse tightly closed. I might go further than that and say there might be even more money in the pot.
They are giving Rafa just enough rope to hang himself with and run the popularity stakes right down.
I will go with that.
I hope it is a gamble worth taking.

regards

While there might be logic in it I think, firstly that Gene is taking the piss, secondly that the lack of spending has more to do with tightening our belt after some big losses last year than a plot to hang Rafa out to dry.

No Rosco, when so many of our stupid people are being ridiculously negative, I think the smart money should go on positive.

Things are never as good as we, the ignorant masses, think they are and they're never as bad as we, the ignorant masses, think they are.
