Aquilani linked with Fiorentina
By Simone Bargellini Last updated: 5th May 2010

The agent of Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has not ruled out a return to Italy with Fiorentina this summer.

Aquilani has been a disappointment at Anfield since his £20million move from Roma last summer as a supposed replacement for Xabi Alonso, with his time in England disrupted by several injuries.

Speculation has suggested that debt-ridden Liverpool may look to raise transfer funds by offloading the Italy international, while manager Rafa Benitez's uncertain future has also cast the player's prospects into doubt.

Fiorentina have been credited with an interest in Aquilani and his agent, Franco Zavaglia, knows that the Serie A club's sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino, is an admirer.

"The interest of Fiorentina is not new," Zavaglia told firenzeviola.it. "There are rumours about Aquilani and Fiorentina for three years.

"I don't think there is anything concrete at the moment, but one thing is for certain, Alberto is a craze of Corvino.

"It is still too early to tell if a deal is possible. First of all the priority is to finish the season well. Then we will know what will be the future at Liverpool."

No thanks.

I'd only sell him if we recouped our money and then some...

The lad is clearly quality and will only get better with time in the Prem.

+1

I'd like to see what becomes of him with whoever our next manager is. Give him a steady run at his favored position, maybe fuck off Lucas, who knows...

I'd rather the money was spent on someone who can be relied upon to stick their foot in and be fit for half a season.

I'd go with that. I like Aqua, but if the offer was decent, I'd let him go. Fitness is too much of an issue.

I'd rather give him another year, unless a really good bid came in for him. He's a decent player.

I'd sell and use every penny of that money to buy a striker. anyone who can't shift lucas as a first choice CM needs fucking off

He's miles better Lucus if our manager could see it. You're over simplifying it.

Not really.

At his 'best' - physically and mentally - he is obviously a far, far better player than The Cunt, but how often is that going to be the case?

He's a player can only function when he is feeling 100%. Not 98 or 99, but 100.

He's a spineless, unreliable, non-tackling shithouse and needs fucking off

He could be knocked out of his stride by a funny look

We could make LOADS of money this summer! Sell all our best players and pay off the debt! Fantastic idea. Admittedly we'd be left with Lucas and Spearing in CM and Wash on his own upfront, but hey - we've got the best goalie in the world. We'd almost certainly avoid relegation.

Yeah! Fans will be so pissed off that getting a new stadium would be least of our problems. We'd struggle to fill the existing. Problem solved. ;D

I hope he stays next season and shows what he can do.
He is a quality player, just benitez hasnt given him a chance

Only a right fool would sell him now.

In my humble opinion of course.

Anyone with a football-brain can see he's got talent and skill in abundance.

Maybe he'll never quite make it here but he's done enough to earn at least another season. At times his link-up play with Gerrard in the Atletico-game almost made me forget about this horrendous season. It was splendid.

He could be a class act in the making. He really could.

For those who don't know who Corvino is, he is a transfer guru and one of the best spotters for talent in the game.

You can see banners in the Curva Fiesole carrying his name, and shirts with "voi con pacqua, noi Corvino" - You've got water, we've got wine.

At Lecce he signed Mirko Vucinic, Javier Chevanton, Valeri Bozhinov, and Cristian Ledesma ... and brought in other young players on loans like Marco Donadel, Cesare Bovo and Manuele Blasi.

He then joined Fiorentina out of respect for his father - who was a Viola fan.

There he bought in Luca Toni from Palermo, and more recently Gilardino and Marco Marchionni - both who have revitalised their careers at the club.

And the 10M Euro he spent on Juan Vargas - BARGAIN.

His 2 best young signings of late are Steven Jovetic of which most of you are familiar with, and Adem Ljajic.... When it comes to finding talent in a certain corner of the continent (Eastern Europe) there is no one like Corvino. He was ridiculously close to signing Berbatov and Vidic - before bigger clubs like Leverkusen and Man United stepped in.

Roopy, why do you have this over the top reverence for all things Italian?

Most of those players are OK, but not splurt in the drawers great.

Didn't someone once liken him to Veron? And Veron's injury record was pretty good, so I can only assume they were referring to his football ability/form in the EPL.

you had me convinced til 'Berbatov'. ;D
Hope Aquilani stays and proves his ability next season. His class is there, but am personally unconvinced that he can take the rigours of the EPL.
