3 successive Liverpool managers haven't wanted a fucking bar of him.

4th time's a charm though eh.

Benitez - pragmatic ... this is a guy who told Insua not to cross the half way line!
Hodgson - pragmatic ... no need to elaborate on this.
Dalglish - spoke about playing the Liverpool way, but I don't recall that ever being 451, and the style under him was no better than the previous.

Yes we've had 3 managers as you've pointed out ... but like I said before, their approach to the game didn't suit Aquilani's game. He was played in his preferred position, deep-lying midfielder, but was restricted in his forward runs (which is a strong part of his game) ... instead he was told to stay back and break up play ....

I'm not saying he'll be world class under Rodgers, but at least if he does stay ... then he'll have a better opportunity to prove himself.

Fair enough if 99% of ppl have written him off, but I'm prepared to give him another chance.

How many successive Italian managers have there been that haven't wanted to buy him for the fucking 90% off we've offered up Roopy?

I been through this before.

Milan - priorities right now are to reduce their wage bill ... and replace the likes of Nesta, Gattuso, Van Bommel, Inzaghi ... sign up Silva to a lucrative contract ... there are bigger priorities for Milan than signing Aquilani at the moment ... Berlusconi's company has been fined 500M if I'm not mistaken so he must pay installments on that ... TO ADD ... They still have to pay installments for Ibrahimovic & Robinho.

Juve - they didn't want to pay the 10M asking price ... we had in fact agreed an 8M fee for Aquilani with the manager of Juve at the time, Luigi Del Neri ... however he was sacked and then a new manager came in, Antonio Conte, and decided not to pursue him and instead opt for someone younger in Arturo Vidal, and snap up Pirlo on a free.

Regardless Roopy, he's been rejected by a series of managers across two leagues.

There's a reason for that, and for the other "he doesn't fit into certain systems" argument you were putting forward up there too mate; he's a luxury player, and not a consistently good one at that.

Ronaldo is a luxury player too. But he scores 60 goals a season. Robben's a luxury player, but he's the best winger on the planet. Sneijder's a luxury player, but Inter won a CL accomodating that luxury.

Aquilani doesn't fit into many systems, isn't wanted by a variety of managers or teams, and has never shown that he can consistently impact games. Those are the facts.

You guys are basing everything on hope.

Ryan's right, to a degree, you have to wonder why successive managers haven't wanted him, despite his talent. Rafa is the one who initially showed the interest and paid the money and even he had had his mind changed by the end of that season. He came out sounding annoyed that Aquilani had self assessed his own health and decided he wasn't "well enough" to play. So as many of us suspect, I think this has much more to do with his mentality and hunger for it, rather than his technical ability. I think the Le Tallec comment is probably wide of the mark (but not far from the truth), in terms of the idea being better than the reality, he's just another Joe Cole.

Worth a shot? Probably, but he'll still be fighting it out with Gerrard for a place and ultimately, if he was a shithouse 3 or 4 years ago, he'll still be one now.

From SSN...Kind of related.

Milan free Flamini

Former Arsenal ace leaves San Siro

AC Milan have confirmed that they have ended negotiations with Mathieu Flamini and he has now left the club.
The former Arsenal

midfielder was out-of-contract this summer, but he was in talks over a new two-year deal despite not being heavily involved under coach Massimiliano Allegri.
He was limited to must two appearances last term, although he missed the first part of the campaign through injury.
But now Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that they have ended talks with Flamini

and they could return for Liverpool's

Alberto Aquilani

- who spent last season on loan at the San Siro.
"The deadline has passed and we told his lawyer we won't be waiting any more. We'll bring in a new midfielder by August 31," Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.
"It could be Alberto Aquilani or someone else, as he is a Liverpool player and we're not in talks with them."
Flamini joined Milan in 2008 after leaving Arsenal on a free transfer.

Still 28, free transfer with premiership experience and very decent option to have in CM...much better than Spearing.
Get him and still ask for at least 5mill for Auailani. If they refuse, let him come back here seeing that nobody else wants him.

Do it. We'd be getting a player who's actually shown he's happy to play in England, in direct contrast to Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion, and can do a good job in more than one position (Flamini covered LB for the Arse for a while and looked as if he'd been playing there all his career). He doesn't have Aquilani's skill, but we will never ever get the full benefit of that anyway. Even if Aquilani does come back, he'll only be looking for his next ticket out of here - and the Italians all know it, which is why they're exceeding even their usual level of cnutishness over a deal for him.

Yeah not surprised Flamini didn't accept the new contract - greatly reduced in wages.

Aquilani to Milan is still a possibility - I'm sure they will take us to the cleaners with this deal.

So the one manager who has reportedly been interested in signing Aquilani gets sacked before he can actually do it? Was that the final straw for the board?

"Look guys I know things haven't gone so well but I have plans. Big plans. I want to sign Aquilani for 8 million!"
"Get out"

Honestly. HONESTLY.
I love Aquilani. I wanted us to sign him. He was one of my favourite players as a kid.
I banged on about him for years before he came.
But I dont want him back.

Aside from what a pussy hes shown himself to be, he STILL misses half a season each year injured.
And during that time hes still earning 120k a week or whatever the fuck ever.

We signed him, it didnt work. We should put him up for sale at o.n.o and just get rid of the fucker.
Im saddened by it but as a club we need to move the fuck forward. Kuyt has gone, i expect Maxi to follow and Aquilani and Cole should be part of that clear out as far as im concerned.
If we replace those 4 with Sigurdsson and ONE worldy id call this a great summer.

lol nah.

Guiseppe Marotta, Juve's Managing Director, also wanted to sign him - he was the one responsible for Aquilani being there in the first place.

Even after Del Neri was sacked, Marotta tried to push through the deal but Antonio Conte wasn't in favour of it and instead purchased Vidal.

it was either a Vidal/Pirlo or Pirlo/Aquilani combination, they went for the first one as Pirlo/Aquilani are too similiar.

Pirlo/Aquilani too similar - fuck me thats a bit of a leap!! Having watched him about 3 times last season he is a complete meh player, the game just passes him by as he gently jogs up and down the pitch, the occasional pretty pass excepted. Unlike Pirlo who can actually control a match dictating the tempo. He's never going to be suited to the rough and tumble of the prem. Please just get rid

I can't accept getting rid of Aquilani as long as we have worse players in the squad.

I never said they were on the same level.

Position-wise, they are like for like ... deep-lying playmakers.

Similiar to Gerrard & Lampard who can't play side by side ...

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has speculated that the club could still sign Liverpool playmaker Alberto Aquilani.
The Italian international is due back in England for talks with new manager Brendan Rodgers concerning his perspective involvement next season.
Aquilani has spent the last two seasons on loan at AC Milan and Juventus and is seeking clarity on his future have endured a torrid three-year career at Anfield.

Aquilani's future is up in the air.
A clause was inserted in Aquilani's contract upon his loan move to the San Siro allowing the 27-year-old to complete a permanent move to Serie A should he made 25 appearances during the season. However, having made only 23 appearances domestically, Milan have so far been unable to clinch a deal, and the player's agent Franco Zavaglia hinted earlier this week that the Rosseneri might have missed their opportunity to recruit Aquilani this summer.

Now Galliani has waded in with the latest twist to the saga surrounding Aquilani, stating a deal could still be clinched before the transfer window slams shut.
"Before August 31, another midfielder will arrive, it could be Aquilani or somebody else," Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We haven't spoken yet to Aquilani. He is a Liverpool player."
Clarence Seedorf, Gennaro Gattuso and Mathieu Flamini are all leaving Milan this summer, and the club are likely to require an additional midfield option as they attempt to wrestle the Serie A title away from Juventus next term.

Milan have dismissed fresh links with Kaka and Mario Balotelli by declaring that they need a new defensive midfielder.

“I have many dreams, but seeing Balotelli at Milan will most likely remain just that,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani stated to Sky Sport Italia.

“As for Kaka, I see his return to San Siro as impossible. They have different tax laws in Spain and we can’t compete with their salaries.”

While ruling out bids for the Manchester City and Real Madrid players, Galliani also insisted that striker Robinho will stay.

“In order to complete our squad, we are missing a midfielder who can play in front of the defence,” Galliani added. “Kevin Constant was signed yesterday from Genoa to replace the injured Sulley Muntari.”

The Diavolo are thus looking for a direct Mark Van Bommel replacement after he opted to return to PSV Eindhoven.

“Our objective for the season ahead is to win the Italian championship and go as far as possible in the Champions League,” the official added.

Kaka to Milan would be a brilliant signing for both parties.

Kaka has really been missing in action since his move to Madrid.

Shame, he's a quality player who flourishes in a side built around him - not in a side where his isn't the focal point.

Please, please make this happen so that no one can ever talk about him again.......

I just read that article and it says he's 27.

Twenty fucking seven. I thought he was like 22 or something.

Nobody worse than AC Milan for transfers utter cunts.
They will sell Silva for silly silly money then plead poverty.
Can't stick them,we will end up just giving the lad away to free up his wages.
Dont rate him to be fair reminds me of ming, pussy and won't fight for the team.

Thought he was about 29 myself.

Then again if you're not 25 or under, you're considered an oldie when it comes to the modern day footballer.

"oh we can't be signing him, he recently turned 26 God Dammit"

27? He's just approaching the prime of his career 😉

Just out of curiosity.

Who would you guys rather have?

Spearing or Aquilani.

I'm so over this guy. Either he stays or he goes. I just hope to Christ its over soon. It's like one of those threads when someone's about to sign and it goes on for weeks. Except it's in the opposite direction. And it's gone on for 2 fucking years.

And I'd have to say spearing. You know what your getting with him. He's just cover where as with aquafanny he's coming as a first teamer. And I'd hope we could do better than someone who's been prostituted around Europe for a couple seasons without finding a John.
