It's not really about how technically gifted they are though Modo. It's about how much they're suited and up for the fight, and someone passing themselves off continuously as unfit and shirking a challenge on the pitch is clearly NOT up for it.
Dos Santos is clearly more technically gifted than Dirk Kuyt, but I'll wager now who'll have had the better career.
Anyway, you make it sound like there's a severe lack of talent in the middle of the park with us. We could do with a playmaker but I doubt Aquilani fits the level that we need on that note, ie someone of the quality of a Modric, we've still got a good group of players in Gerrard, Lucas, and with the potential of Henderson and Shelvey. Add another to that and we have more than enough to be getting on with.
There's a reason managers have let him slip through their fingers and clubs aren't scrambling for his signature. Just like there's a reason Dos Santos failed at Spurs and Ipswich.
What Henderson potential? I've yet to see this alleged potential. He's been average or poor all season. Not good as a defensive midfielder nor any good as a attacking one. He works hard and has a good first touch I'll give him that. Now shelvey i can see potential if he works hard. You can see he has talent, but Henderson i just don't see it.

It would be Aqua for me however I'd be asking big Jan Molby to come out of retirement to play over Spearing.
I'd be pulling out as many stops as possible to try and sign Dembele from Fulham.
didn't help the lad playing right wing,also I've seen him play with Gerrard and the difference is massive in the middle.
I'd be nervous if I had to play in the middle of the park with Adam and Speo.
The lads engine his work rate and commitment second to none.
Only young he will be a boss player for us as will Shelvey.

and a mackem mate told me before he was bought that he wanted to be a centre mid , kept telling everyone he was, but always played better for them on the right .
i presume he'll be here next season so it's a massive one for him .same again as this and he can fuck off . and yeah i know lucas is the best player in the world after messi and ronaldo but he was wank for far too long and if we weren't so shite during large parts of that period he'd have been bombed out.

First off Dos Santos may have failed at Tottenham and Ipswich, but a couple of weeks ago he was brilliant against Brazil while playing for Mexico.
Now ask yourself, could Henderson or Shelvey (who I like), pull off that kind performance against them. Would you trust them to help win a team like Mexico the Gold cup(North american championship)?
This is why I think the potential is there, maybe he just doesnt fit into their system?
Maybe he'd be more settled around Suarez, Coates, Suso, Lucas, Enrique?
How much of a gamble would it be to buy him considering that we spent around £50 Million on Adam, Hendo and Downing?

Aqua might shirk out challenges like Maxi does, but at least he wouldn't be the defensive liability Adam is.

One thing is for sure, when he broke into the Barca team there was an air of arrogance by him and his agent who felt suddenly this guy was a superstar who deserved big money.
Barca didn't like that, Spurs were stupid enough to pay him big money and so he was sold.

Aquilani is the more talented but I'd rather have a limited Spearing who is all heart everyday of the week.
