But why would we pay off his contract ? I mean, we may as well use him as we wouldnt be saving any wages would we?
Normally the pay off is less than the total amount of wages we would have to pay.

His agent denied that possibility yesterday

Yeah.

The agent of Alberto Aquilani has rejected the notion that Liverpool could let his client leave the club on a free transfer.

Some reports over the past week had claimed that the Premiership outfit were prepared to release him for nothing in order to get him off their wage bill.

“I can exclude the possibility that he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer,” Franco Zavaglia told Il Sussidiario.

“There is nothing new to report at this moment in time with regard to his future. There was a meeting with Liverpool and we are now waiting for them to give us an answer.

“What did we ask them? We’ll keep that to ourselves.”

Aquilani was signed by Liverpool in August 2009 from Roma for about €20m, but he struggled to settle at Anfield.

He spent the 2010-11 season on loan at Juventus, while he joined Milan last summer in a loan deal which included an enforced buy-out should he have appeared in a set number of games.

Aquilani didn’t fulfil that requirement, but the Rossoneri could still be interested if Mathieu Flamini doesn’t pen a renewal.

“I don’t know if he wants to stay at Milan,” Zavaglia added. “Let’s see what happens. We should hear from Liverpool by the end of the week.”

Aquilani, who missed out on Euro 2012, has been linked with Fiorentina.

WHOO WHOO WHOO !!!

"He's not gonna make it !

Big, Dave Grohl-looking mutha fucka's hands, wrapped 'round his throat....

...and a pair of Adidas Rom, rammed up his ass. He's not gonna make it !!"

According to Sky Italia, he's going to be loaned out again to AC Milan with an obligatory buy-out clause set at €1 million. 50/50 wages

seriously , someone just kick the shit out of this useless piece of wankpiss .

Are we really at the point that we're pretty much paying people to take him ?

I hold Downing as the worst transfer ever because he was expensive and is undoubtedly poor. 0 goals 0 assists.
Aquilani wasn't terrible and I do think some of the blame has to be put on the club. Hodgson threw him out for Cole and Kenny did the same for Adam and Gerrard, that's what I believe anyway.

Did he throw a tantrum when he came back last pre-season?
No, he went about his business and outperformed our entire midfield.
I somehow don't blame him for not wanting to come back.

And please don't say that he didn't want to stay back then, because several people with insight in this matter said the opposite, Comolli, Aquilani's agent, his father and himself.

At least he played like he wanted to stay. 2nd worst transfer ever.

If downing gets 1 goal in the league next year, and/or gets sold for more than 5m, then downing isn't a worse transfer

... He played like 'he wanted to stay' because he was probably desperate to leave. No where has this player shown he's wanted to be a part of this team and league. He's a talented player, far more so than Downing, but that doesn't mean he's not the worst transfer in our history. I think part of the fact you defend him so much is mostly due to the person who bought him~!
