Former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is looking for a return to the Premier League after falling out with his boss at Monaco.

I'm not sure an influx of more slow players is exactly what we need but Gudjohnsen is still a talented player. As is Horseface of course.

Hmm, I'm not sure about this loan signings of past-it ex-rivals thing. I hate RVN and I dislike Gudjohnsen, and the whole thing smacks of desperation. It also seems a poor reward for Wash's current form.

If Babel leaves, I think we need to replace him - but preferably with someone fast and young who can play LW if necessary. And no, I don't have any suggestions.

I'd take 'em both in a second. Both proven winners and they'd improve our 'pothibilities' tremendously.

I thought you were a believer in giving youth a chance?

Elia from Hamburg. Any such option would require money though.

I agree. If we get rid of Voronin and get an old striker in then I can live with that. We're not losing a great deal there. Noone's gonna pay much for Voronin anyway.

But if we get rid of other players for a fee and spend that money on the wages of old loan signings then its a situation that won't be sustainable. However poor they might be at times people like Babel and Dossena are essentially saleable assets.

I am ... but I also am trying to be realisitc, I cannot see Rafa giving our kids a go if he's 'guaranteed' 4th place (well besides Ngog, who's earned it, and Lucas)

He'd have no choice if we sold four fringe players and didn't replace them.

I guess ... if that's the case, I'd rather see a Pacheco or Eccleston (both who want to prove themselves) over Gudjohnson and Kelly given more minutes. But I think a RvN is a must just in case Torres struggles for fitness. I know he's an ex-Manc, but RvN will produce the goods and will come relatively cheap it seems.

Quite a few RvN links today saying we are close to a deal. Fingers tightly crossed - he will score a lot of goals for us if he comes here.

GJ - yes I would take him, not only does he get his name on the scoresheet but he is an excellent creator of goals for his team-mates too.

OUT from 1st Team Squad : Babel, Voronin, Dossena
INTO 1st Team Squad : RvN, GJ, Pacheco, Ecclestone

Yes please.

Not seen him for a couple of seasons but I wanted us to go after him then when he was getting scant games at Barca.

I know times have changed somewhat, but Anelka's the only loan player I remember and that was with a view to a permananent transfer. Do you think we'd seriously be looking at either RvN or EG with a permanent transfer in mind.
Having said that, one of the reaons I was happy with the Keane signing despite his age was that we have talent ready to come through. This would be in the same vein - a stopgap while that youth develops.

Well, he fits the usual Benitez free signing mould: ie fucking slow with his best years well behind him.

Name anyone on a fre that hasn't run down his contract just to move to Real Madrid that isn't slow with his best years behind him?

Daniel Sturridge.

He was a youth player (under 23) and city got a fee from a tribunal.

Not saying he was tapped up to join Chelsea, but he was tapped up to run his contract down and join Chelsea (allegedly)

Cool.... I think if argued well, without abuse or personal abuse for the manager/players, fellow forumites I don't see the problem? Now is the time to be critical is it not? Or do we go all Tomkinsesque?

No issues as long as we don't see every thread, even if it's about haircuts or about Marco Van Basten's goal in '88, become a "Rafa is shit" thread.
