Calling him a liar isn't going to harm him. Whereas the things Evra lied about have actually inflicted harm upon Suarez, on his teamates, on the fans, and on the club. Revenge isn't about showing leniancy, if anything your vengence will go over the limit and be ten times worse than what the victim actually did. But then you should expect that. If Evra wanted a fair punishment for his lies then he should have come clean during the hearing. He didn't. So now he is at the mercy of others who seek revenge, if they go over the top, tough luck.

Really? What about the rumour about a bluenose who'd been killed (actually a broken jaw - still not nice but a little different) prior to the Anfield derby? Cue bluenoses attacking a known LFC pub and slashing a lads throat (turned out he was blue as well) - luckily he survived. There's a classic example of rumours gone wrong so don't tell me people who create them aren't fuckwits when they put innocent people at risk.

Thing is, there are people who will bite at rumours and physically react without knowing the full facts. That can be a dangerous thing.

Fair enough in that case irony 2 was a mistake, I got confused by your phrasing of "exactly that". It seemed to mean that you were restricting abuse to be exactly in reply to the crime - lying. If you can abuse beyond that, then we only disagree upon where we draw the line. I'm not saying it's good or fair to racially abuse Evra, you're all obviously the better people to draw the line there.

But I just don't view things as being about how good a person I am, or am not. I just view it very coldly as... what logical reason is there for me to draw the line at some point? I can see the logical reason for abusing him only for being a liar as that is an honest form of abuse because he is in fact a liar. But I would not accept that reason as honesty would not result in the desired outcome of hurting Evra. So beyond that, I would only draw the line at murdering him, or inflicting permanent physical injury. That is only because if I were wrong then it would be impossible to make things right had I inflicted irreversible harm. Everything else goes.
 
Say for example you want someone killed. You are not capable of killing them so you'd have to hire a hitman to do the job. In my case, I am not capable of racially abusing Evra. However if a stupid old welshmen or dubliner wants to step forward to do my bidding, then I will happily hire him, use him to hurt evra, and then dispose of him.

From the point of view of a normal calm human being, that type of thing makes me morally and legally no better than a murderer or a racist. But from the point of view of someone driven by revenge, that type of thing makes all the difference. It opens doors which the victim never imagined would be opened in their worst nightmares. And unless you are some born again christian or jain buddhist, then there are a million different things which could happen to you or your family which would drive you to similar lengths. You're only criticising dantes because it takes relatively little for me to go insane at someone. But we're not that different, I just have a shorter fuse and less mercy.
