He and his people are just quote machines, shows how fucking gulible we were.

Andy Carroll joined Liverpool in a sensational £35millon deal, and then claimed Newcastle had 'pushed him out of the door'.

St James' Park owner Mike Ashley is preparing himself for a backlash from fans after the striker gave up the club's famous No 9 shirt to replace Fernando Torres at Anfield - and was not replaced on Tyneside.

After earlier rejecting two offers for Carroll, Newcastle said Carroll the 21-year-old had handed in a transfer request to seal the switch.

But the editor of the ToonTalk fanzine, Steve Wraith, claimed Carroll had contacted him before flying to Merseyside and said the England striker had been left with no option but to leave.

Wraith claimed Carroll texted: 'I'm gutted to be leaving my home town club, i was told to go. I didn't want to leave that's why I signed a 5 year deal. I was pushed out of the door.'

Newcastle failed in a last-gasp £12m bid to re-sign winger Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan, but did bring in midfielder Stephen Ireland on loan from Aston Villa for the rest of the season.

The deal for Carroll would seem to be excellent business for the club - never before has such a fee, or anything like it, been paid for a player with only 41 Premier League games to his name.

But Newcastle legend Alan Shearer said: 'I think they (fans) will be angry. They don't want to see their top player go. The fans are not really interested in the financial side of things.

'But from the club's point of view, you've got to say that £35m is just an incredible amount of money. It's only a good deal if they go out and spend £35m- 40m on replacing him.'

Carroll will do well. The fee is ridiculous though, hopefully, for your sakes, he doesn't fold under the pressure. I think Suarez could have a massive impact on how this works out...if Suarez can get plenty of goals there wont be as much pressure on Carroll. He'll be praised for doing donkey work, winning headers and just being a nuisance. That wouldn't be the case if he was replacing Torres outright as your only striker. Of course he'll still need to score a few though! Good luck to him, cant wait to see them playing together.

I've been watching clips of him today and I'm rather excited at the thought of him playing centre forward for Liverpool.

He's quick, has skill, shoots well with both feet and is a magnificent header of the ball.

I can't remember Liverpool having such a powerful forward.

It was only yesterday afternoon that the Carroll deal was tied up, freeing Torres to depart for a medical in west London. Newcastle quoted Tottenham £30m earlier in the month when they inquired about Carroll and could not refuse when Liverpool met the £35m valuation. Carroll's wages are expected to rise from £20,000-a-week to £70,000-a-week.

The size of the Carroll deal almost overshadowed Chelsea's own huge straight cash offer for Torres, which they are understood to be paying in cash instalments across the course of a five-year deal. A record £214.5m was spent in this transfer window.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish delivered an advance parting shot to Torres by saying any player who believed he was bigger than Liverpool was "a wee bit stupid and irresponsible".

Fantastic!

stolen from that strange liverpool rumours website:

His Transfer said he was a red, Carroll, Carroll.

You'll Never Walk Alone we Said, Carroll, Carroll.

We Hope he doesn't go to jail,

But if he does, we'll pay his bail,

Andy Carroll, Liverpool's lu-na-tic

Shearer cost Blackburn 3.5 million. Carroll (Not yet half the player Shearer was) cost 35 million! Football really has gone mental!

Remember thinking how crazy it was when the Chavs spent 26 million on Drogba? Seems cheap now.

He's actually a lot faster than I thought. I hadn't seen much of him prior to our purchase, and though it is just a youtube video, I am excited. He's got all the tools.

This move probably ensures that Crouch will never start for England again.

Rooney and Carroll it is.

Fee aside I'm very happy with this signing.

I'd prefer he started on a lower wage though and built up to a bigger one.

if you take in attributes of both suarez and carrol the combination of the two has everything. two players that are difference enough to dovetail perfectly like shearer and sheringham. here's hoping that carrol isn't too tempting a target to hoof up to for carra.

I posted a blog by Tim Vickery who likened Suarez to Villa [David] and suggested he'd perhaps find it more difficult to complement someone like Carroll.

I'm looking forward to seeing both play now though.

This boy is going to be a revelation for us. He's huge, powerful and fast.

In combination with a fast, tricky, bull of a player with a fierce will to win they'll be a force to be reckoned with.

I have seen Newcastle a fair bit this Season. Often a rather amusing team to watch for several reasons.

And Carroll has been very good in every single game I've seen.

Not only does he score goals he's also setting his team-mates up nicely. And he's a proper footballer too.

The fee is steep and there's a lot of pressure on his rather massive shoulders however I've got an extremely good feeling about him. Perhaps not Torres-class from the off (obviously) but alongside Suarez there's a good chance they'll, alongside Gerrard, chip in more than the ol' Gerrard - Torres combo.

I'm excited.

Oh and I can't wait to see Suarez hit a freekick against Stoke come Saturday. He's got a mean, bending kick I tell you.
