Agree 110%
And @Gerry_A_Trick

Why ? He's 25 FFS not a geriatric. Ha !

Coming into his prime, 20-25M for an England international who made the short-lists for player of the season, just doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Posters here will list all these foreign players they have read about, used on FM or possibly actually even seen a handful of times, and some of them are no more than first season wonders themselves, but there is no guarantee they'll be better, or even equal, to a proven PL player and, importantly for us, a leader.

I live in Southampton, Saints fans are....a different breed.

They all seem to think Lallana is their Gerrard who will never leave, loves the club etc. They think Saints can realistically challenge for CL, and that Pochettino is going to sign loads of players for that CL push, therefore Lallana will stay to spearhead that.

Agreed I live down the road in Ringwood and can vouch Saints fans are exactly like this. They seem to live in a dream world.

I just don't get the inverted snobbery with some people, just because he is English he cannot be as sexy as a foreign player. Well considering how Rodgers is proving that wrong and bangs on all the time about how British players are just as skillful as their foreign counterparts I just don't see that as an argument. If he's good enough get him in, he won't need to adjust to the league or settle in to a new country. He is a class player who will be even better in our team. If he played in the much slower Serie A he would be showing crazy skills and everyone would be raving about him.

With a surname like "Lallana" he's clearly got foreign roots anyway (my guess would be Spanish with a name like that).

People on his talk about Lallana as if he's Alonso carrying Hyypia, sure he ain't Raheem Sterling, but he's not exactly slow, he's just got decent pace, its not that much of an issue.

For precisely the reasons I mentioned. Its about value for money, we need to get our signings right if we're going to challenge next season. We don't have much margin for error.

He may well end up being worth it, I just fear another Downing. Over paying for an English player who's had one good top flight season at not exactly a young age. If he was 21, you could justify if with potential, but at 25/26 you can't. Id take him for 15m at the most, otherwise I think we'd find better value for money elsewhere.

He's nothing like downing. Everyone knew downing was shit. Ive no problem with buying him as long as it means it doesnt stop us getting a playmaker, 2 fullbacks and a goalkeeper of top quality.

We need to take the next step. I'd rather we sell a few we don't need and (if the stories are correct and we have ca. 60-65 to spend) buy 3 high quality players costing £20-25M a piece (and the same next season) than chance our arm on 6-7 at £10M in the hope we find another Sturridge/Coutinho. There are no guarantees either way but Andy Carrolls aside hopefully over two seasons those 5-6 top quality players will enable us to take one large step forward.

I didnt mean he was anything like Downing as a player. Just that we'd overpay for an English player again in that age bracket.

I hate these type of lists.
It's tribal football/goal.com type shite.
Oh look I've heard of these before you.

Not only that but zero explaination about the player/s, just a plain list of names copied from wherever, if these posters put a bit of effort into it and gave some decent reasons why these player/s are a better opition for Liverpool then their opinion on this subject would get some respect.

Red Maradona done one of these lists early on in the thread, i replied with at least an attempt at the pros and cons of most players on his list and got no reply back, here he his half a dozen or so pages later doing the exact same utterly pointless basic thing.

When one of these players turns out to be great we will get reminded about it too.

From "A New Striker"

  • Yevhen Konoplyanka - We all know this one. £15M should do it.
  • Marco Reus - Can play as an AM, Winger, or outright striker. Dortmund's having a bit of a dip this season, and they have a very straightforward transfer policy, where if you pay the release clause, the deal is as good as done.£30-35M is the purpoted number, and at that price he would be an excellent signing.
  • Alexandre Lacazette - Quietly having a very productive season in Ligue 1, with an impressive goal tally. He's just 22, and has the pace and ability on the ball to play across the front line. He reminds me a lot of Sturridge to be honest, and this is a prototypical FSG signing. £10-15M would probably do the trick.
  • Luis Muriel - Has the talent, but there are various red flags. Has had injury concerns of late, and there were various reports concerning his work ethic. Would cost £15M if not more.
  • Xherdan Shaqiri - Moved to Bayern a few windows back, has had limited opportunities to get into the first team, and that doesn't look to be changing anytime soon. Has shown flashes of being a very good player, but he needs more minutes. Could make a real impact at the WC however, which could change the market. Another one in the £10-20M bracket.
  • Vincent Aboubakar - Another young player having a breakout season in Ligue 1. Very pacey, but has a very solid build, and has shown great technique this year. He would be quite cheap, no more than £6-8M I would say.
  • Alessio Cerci - Winger at Torino having a fantastic year, he should finish up with around 15 goals and 10+ assists. I can see another club in Serie A snatching him up this summer, but he would be a good addition. Bit older at 26, but he should be available for £10-20M, probably towards the higher end.

Worth remembering that Lallana will be in Brazil with at least five of our players, sure they'll be encouraging him to join

[article= http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/adam-lallana-should-snub-liverpool-3521843#ixzz31L7VIZei ]Matt Le Tissier has warned Adam Lallana he should snub a move to Liverpool if he wants to be guaranteed first team football every week.

St Mary's skipper Lallana has enjoyed a fantastic season in which he has forced his way into the England team, and been linked with summer moves to Manchester United and Liverpool.

Saints legend Le Tissier snubbed big money moves to spend his entire career with Southampton, and says he hopes Lallana does the same.

He said: "I chose to stay at Southampton, I was happy here, but it’s very much down to the individual.

"Adam Lallana seems to be loyal to Saints. He stayed when the club went down the divisions and he was far too good to be playing in League One.

"But at the same time, if a team that are in the Champions League are coming in for him, and that’s something he feels he maybe can’t do at Southampton, then that might change things.

"Liverpool will have a big squad. The question is, does he want to play football every week as he does at Southampton?

"Or does he want to go and be part of a squad and probably not play every week?"

Lallana is a front runner to be in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad, but Le Tissier argues he should also be in the starting line up in Brazil.

"I’d be very surprised if he isn't in the first team in Brazil. If he doesn’t, I’d be very disappointed in Roy Hodgson."

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has also been linked with a switch away from the club this summer, with Tottenham thought to be keen to bring him to White Hart Lane.

But Le Tissier warned that any move will be a risk.

"He’s got a great reputation at this club [Southampton]. What I mean by that is, he’s not likely to get sacked here.

"If he goes to Spurs and doesn’t get them in the top four, he’ll be out on his backside, so it’s a gamble."[/article]
