Arguably nothing symbolises our chaotic post-title existance more than our incompetence with keepers. Souey passing on buying big LFC fan Schmiechel in favour of David James, Ged and Parry's Crowded House moment, accidentally buying two keepers in one day, the buying and binning of Friedel, the Carson debacle, and on and on it went.

So remind me why we bought Karius?
Or why we replaced James with Friedel or Friedel with Westerveld and later on Dudek.
Then we had some great years with Reina until the keeper rotation started again.
Were you convinced by anyone of them bar Reina?
During this time we've seen our rivals have Lehman, De Gea, Van der Saar, Cech, Cortois, Hart etc.

Irrelevant. You said "we have a habit of buying crappy keepers". Not a single one of those keepers was "crappy" when they arrived.

The question about whether I was convinced by them isn't the simple one you're suggesting either. James and Westerveld didn't live up to their reputations, but Friedel was let down by what was in front of him and we let him go too quickly (as his subsequent career proved) while Dudek was excellent to begin with until Houllier destroyed his confidence instead of standing by him after one bad game.

Understand where you are coming from but it says something that Reina has returned to top form at Napoli, Brad Jones has just been voted keeper of the year in Holland and Gulasci is the keeper at Red Bull Leipzig who are second in the Bundeliga. How else are we to correlate the dip in form of ALL our keepers and the upturn in their form after leaving? Is it the pressure at the club or is it something else, Suarez aside, outfield players do not seem to flourish away from the club.

Has Reina returned to top form or just had a few good games ? I ask because Napoli want to replace him.

Holland and Austria are easier leagues to play in and i can' t find any reference to Brad Jones' award

And thats part of the problem - we put our goalkeepers under a microscope. We don't pay attention to others by and large

I see Gulacsi is in Germany now with another Red Bull.

The important thing with him is probably age anyway - how old was he when left ?

Its hardly surprising that at 26 he's playing his best football

Well you may be right but why the fuck sign him in the first place?
Sure we scrutinise our own keepers more, understandably, but take Brad Jones - utter cack but now highly regarded at one of the biggest Dutch clubs. Is there a reason for this? I have no way of knowing but the evidence seems to grow that if you are a half decent keeper if you come to Liverpool your form will be destroyed!

Part of the problem here IMO is that we jump to conclusions far too quickly about some players, at times in the teeth of the evidence. I know Brad Jones was pretty uninspiring some of the time, but we won a Carling Cup with him in goal all the way to Wembley and I've never agreed he was as dire as so many are quick to describe him. LFC's successful history has been absolutely vital in ensuring the club kept trying to get back to the top through many lean years, but IMO it's also tended to prompt too many over-hasty judgments about individual players along the way.

Eh, Reina played in almost every League cup game that season or all of them. I'm not sure Jones even made the bench with Doni around.

Holland has lower standards.

Mediocre people of all professions go there
