I'm rather pissed and may be missing the point, but why are England being picked as "surprise" team and then being knocked out in quarters or semis?

What's a surprise about that?

I don't know why nobody else has predicted France as the first big team to exit, they are an ageing squad with a rubbish manager and in a group with URgay and mexico who are both decent.

Speaking as one of those who've done this, I interpreted "surprise" as "surprise to most observers" rather than "surprise to me". I suspect most observers outside England have written us off, partly because of our consistent underachievement in World Cups and partly because many of them always want to see us flop anyway. IMO things will be different this time, largely because of the manager.

I did not post. But i would have certainly picked Ozil for young player, Higuain or Luis Fabiano for golden boot and Denmark for surprise package.

I think Italy would be the bigger exit story at the end of first round of fixtures though.

Just to make it clear, I made these predictions only yesterday mate...

(I have backed Argentina to win and Higuain to win the Golden boot however at the bookies but then again.... I also believed France could go a long way.... )
