Unconventional. I think Wenger and co. will try to target Gomez with Sanchez and Bellerin / Debuchy, which means Ibe will have to drop in to help, while Milner has to watch the spaces that form on that side as the Gunners start to weave their patterns. Coutinho on the right frees him from Coquelin's shackling in the middle and also gives him less defensive duties being ahead of Clyne than Gomez. Firmino could be a wild card and I hope he'll introduce a fair bit of unpredictability to this game and bamboozle the Gooners.

I can see us trying to be solid to start, and using the long ball out to Benteke and Firmino on the counter. Yeah, Gooners, take your "Liverpool... hoof the ball" chants and shove it up yours when we hoof a couple of counter attacks past a ponderous Cech caught slow coming off his line.
Alternatively, I suppose we could try to get a pair of easy Skrtel setpiece headers in the first 10 minutes and win this on a canter.

Mignolet
Clyne Skrtel Lovren Gomez
Can Milner
Coutinho Firmino Ibe
Benteke

Subs: Bogdan, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Lallana, Origi, Ings

I agree they will try to target Gomez .... however I'm not sure they'll specifically switch Sanchez to the right (Ramsey's area) to do that. And Arsenal don't particularly use the wings a lot either. Looking at the average positions of their front 5 from the first two matches they are all very much central.

I can't see us not using 3 midfielders in Lucas, Can and Milner, with a front three of Firmino, Benteke and Coutinho.

Courier? Really?

Gomez is having an interesting start to his premiership career. He's already survived one of the tougher games with Stoke away and more importantly survived (albeit with a booking) marking a known bully in Jonathon Walters. He then had his home debut in front of the sky cameras and now gets to test himself against the speed and movement of an attacking Arsenal team. He'll find it difficult out there at times. I wouldn't be surprised to see Milner positioned in front of him for added protection.

If the team doesn't leak I'm happy, it cannot be anything but a disadvantage to have your opponents knowing your side so early.

Didn't one of our players suggest Rodgers has something up his sleeve against them?

I'd imaging we're keeping it tight-lipped to gain the best possible advantage, finally we look like we might be trying to let the football do the talking, lets hope it translates to the pitch and it's not all smoke and mirrors bullshit for nothing. In that sense, for want of a better word, the late fitness test for Hendo is ideal. Shame about Lallana though.

In eight seasons with the Saints, the midfielder missed a mere 12 games and a little more than two months of action. Last season at Anfield, he missed nearly three months and 13 games.

It's total bollox though this bloke has contacts but he told me Firminho was starting last Monday so he's full of shit.

I'm at Manchester airport and my flight just got delayed. I was due to land around kick off. The woman next to me is talking loudly about business on the phone. She is going to improve the global marketing reach of blah blah blah. I fucking hate her. I bet there's not even anybody listening on the other end.

Punch her in the throat

It's good advice and she probably deserves it but airports are a bad place to punch random strangers in the throat. Security everywhere.

slap it out of her hand and give her a crazy twitchy death stare
