With all this hype over Shelvey, Suso, Sterling et al, what would you like to see our team look like in 5 years time?

This is of course assuming we aren't took over by a trillionaire, and we'd have at least replaced Gerrard/carra by then, but who from the youth do you think we could expect to see?

Reina
Johnson Kelly Wilson Robinson(?)
Suso Meireles Shelvey Sterling
Torres n'Gog

If Torres is here in 5 years time I'll eat my favoured left bollock.

As for the rest, we haven't had a decent player break through to the first team since Gerrard, which leaves your team looking extremely optimistic as far as youth policy is concerned.

I suspect one or two might make it, if we're lucky, but certainly not that many. The rest of the team is nigh on impossible to predict.

Hate to rain on your parade but Torres won't be playing for us in 5 years time. Be happy if he plays for us next season. My bet is, if we don't win anything significant this season, he's gone.
Sterling would still be too young.
Reina will leave to play for Atletico.
Meireles will be 32 in five years, I give him three at LFC.

it's obviously impossible to say who, if anyone, is going to make it, but for the sake of argument the following would in theory have a *chance* (like a million to one) of being the first XI in 5 years:

-----------------gulacsi

johnson----kelly---wilson---robinson

-----------wisdom---shelvey

--sterling-------suso------pacheco

------------------ngoo

things do look promising on this front, it's hard to deny. we all realise that hype at this stage can easily be misplaced, but i think one thing worth bearing in mind is how many of them have been recognised at international level, which you'd have to think is a pretty good indicator of a good career:

kelly - selected at u21 level, plus he's already consistently impressed for the first team
wilson - captained the u19s, now playing for the u21s.
robinson - a regular for england u17s in past, was on standby for england u19s recently, despite only being 16
wisdom - played for u17s this summer in winning european c'ship, now playing for u19s and still only 17.
shelvey - captains u19s, looks really good at that level.
sterling - regular for u17s.
pacheco - top scorer for spain at u19s euro c'ship this summer.
ngoo - played and scored for u19s the other day, again i think is only 17.

additionally, conor coady, chris mavinga and tom ince have all played for their national teams, and i think there are others who've been recognised. fingers crossed a few of them can make it here.

Wisdom is a central defender.

he can also play midfield. anyway, i was shifting him because we've got so many young centre halves.

Reina will leave to play for Atletico.
Why will he? He only just turned 28 last week, Brad Friedel will be 40 by the end of the season and still in the prem. I see no reason why Pepé couldn't stay till 36/7 (assuming he doesn't decline) and still have a couple of seasons at Atletico to finish his career off.

Well that's optimistic isn't it. So you think we're going to do nothing for the next 5 years? Even with new owners?

Are there any signs to the contrary?

The most instructive thing to do would be to look at our first team and our reserve/youth team from five years ago, and see if any of them made it. Or even came close.

I think we should count ourselves lucky if even one or two of our youngsters is playing for Liverpool's first team in five years' time. My bet would be someone solid and defensive like Kelly rather than a creative player like Suso or Shelvey.

Yeah but our reserve team was shite five years ago. However we won the 2006 and 2007 Fa cup youth cup.

Team 2006:

David Roberts
Stephen Darby
Robbie Threlfall
Jack Hobbs
Godwin Antwi
Charlie Barnett
Paul Barratt
Ryan Flynn
Craig Lindfield
Paul Anderson
Adam Hammill
Josh Mimms
Miki Roque
Jimmy Ryan
Jay Spearing
Michael Nardiello

Team 2007

Martin Hansen
Stephen Darby
Michael Burns
Jay Spearing (c)
Robbie Threlfall
Charlie Barnett
Jimmy Ryan
Ryan Flynn
Craig Lindfield
Lee Woodward
Raymond Putterill
Steve Irwin
David Roberts
Sean Highdale
Ben Parsonage
Nathan Eccleston

The likes of Agger and Skrtel would be around 31-years-old in five years time - as in entering their best years as central defenders. Meireles wouldn't be that too old either.

Pacheco, Suso, Jonjo, Johnson, Torres, Reina, Ngog, Saric, Irwin, Mavinga, Kelly, Amoo, Ngoo, Wisdom, Sterling, Coady, Kohlert will all hopefully be there or thereabouts too.
no, i think that would be incredibly unlikely.

It looks like you are already in that dark place where reason and common sense fail to reach, so I'm not going to bother.
