Rolo is 45, injured and will never last a full season.
He doesn't like Skert.
United played 8 different CB's last year, and won the league.
We needed other players. That Sakho thing looks as big as yer man from the Green Mile and ILori is gonna break hearts.
We conceded too many goals last year, and had to improve the defence. We've done that, and more. I'm delighted.

Fellaini would instantly make us a better more balanced team.
I am sure Capoue will prove to be a greater player too, not quite as one-dimensional.
Yaya Toure could do whatever Lucas does just as well and add so much more.

Mr Rodgers has signed Mignolet, Cissokho, Kolo, Ilori and Sakho to correct that, and I really dont care if Skrtel or Agger or Enrique or whomever nose is put out of joint because they have to sit on the bench.

Sahko only left his boyhood club to get regular games, so I think he's guaranteed to start (provided he plays well) in most games. Agger's just been given the role of vice captain, and they tend to start games. Would Ilori come just to sit on the bench? And then there's Kolo, who's clearly been our best defender. Skrtel has to be off, he's his country's captain and couldn't possibly go through another season on the bench, this time as fourth choice. Yet we've not heard anything about his transfer for weeks.

I am really not complaining either, though the Ilori transfer could be a weird one, especially if he's not here to play. He must be a major talent.
We have been thin looking for years in most areas however and to bolster with a talent of Sakho's caliber is only good for competition and the depth of our squad.

Rodgers has shown that he has no problem dropping players no matter how much he may like them (allen). Agger being vice captain doesn't mean he won't be dropped. He's not playing great at the moment. Toure has easily been the better defender. Sakho is in direct competition with agger and skrtel with toure. I can see agger getting benched if he doesn't improve for Sakho.

Sometimes the criticism of Agger on these boards reaches ridiculous heights.
We have played three games so far this Season and we are yet to concede a goal. He's the only central defender to have played in all three games, yet he's the one that needs dropping. I know he got a very lucky break in the first match, but other than that he's improved by the game, been involved in our goals and played in a back four that haven't conceded one single goal. He's the most assured passer of the ball %-wise in the team, he rarely loses possession and had made some crucial tackles too.
And yet he's easily been our worst defender so far.

Whether Skrtel stays or goes, the now stiff competition for places has raised both his and Agger's game. This has translated to us achieving our best start in donkey years. Toure being a beast certainly helps. Sahko is cut from the same cloth while Ilori could surprise us I reckon, with his ridiculous pace.
So whichever pair who lines up on match day is most certainly the best pair.

Also worth noting that both Skrtel and Agger are turning 29 this Dec. Toure is 32. We need to replace them sooner or later. The new signing might need some time to integrate too. Reminds me a bit about when Agger was signed in January and we had Hyypia and Carra as regulars, there was no need to rush him into the starting XI and the next season he gradually became a regular fixture in the starting XI.
True, but Sakho wants / needs games particularly if he wants to be starting in Brazil next summer so he's surely been made some promises.
As for replacing ageing players, Barca found out what happens when young players get fed up of waiting for their chance this summer. 29 isn't that old.
It's great to have competition for places but we also need to be careful that we have a plan in place for the younger players who aren't really going to get very many games in the short term. That is an area we've been pretty poor in recent times.
Wisdom and Ilori need to continue their development otherwise we're just throwing away talent and money.
Yeah. The Ilori deal seem slightly redundant imo. Coates wasn't offering much to the first team squad so he hardly needs replacing. As for allowing Wisdom to go on loan, Ilori is of the same age and just as inexperience and in need of games. Hope it won't be another Coates kind of deal.
Why would you pick agger ahead of toure when toure has been far superior and sakho is a left sided CB like agger?
No that's true, but you can easily say the same thing about agger. Shouldn't a team be picked on form?

He has not been flawless I just don't think he's been as bad as made out and especially yesterday I thought he was defending very well overall.
The vP chance last night wasn't solely down to Agger's mistake in closing him down either imo.
Van Persie ran into the space between Agger and Skrtel, behind Agger's back, and why I would agree he should've moved further in central, narrowing down the space, he was left exposed as Enrique was turned further up field as he then needed to stay somewhat in position so he wouldn't just invite the player on the ball a freeway down to our goal. Probably the only time our back four looked a bit stretched last night, against the defending champions.
It was a trademark van Persie run too, and baring in mind that it was probably their only good attack during the game, all our our back four should be given credit including Mignolet.
It gives us options and it results in competition for the starting eleven.
We havent had that for a while and it will probably get even more out of the ones already here.
Last season most of our defenders knew they would play even though they were shite. Now that wont happen when somebody is ready to step in.

And a good question too.
I am quietly baffled at this stage as to why we have spend almost £14M on Ilori and Alberto - both seemingly not ready to go into the team any time soon - instead of buying a player for the attacking midfield position (yeah yeah you all know who I wanted but there have been talk of others as well).
The lack of creative spark in the team can become a real headache for Rodgers over the course of a Season.

Toure is quicker than agger and is a better leader and organiser at the back. Its because agger and skrtel weren't good leaders that carra was brought in the first place and also the reason why Rodgers went for toure.
I think Llori is seen as a full back who could play at cb if needed, not the other way round.
