Ancelotti has spoken before of how he has that team essentially set up in a modified 3-5-2.
Fact is most talk of formations is highly semantic and is simply a matter of convenience (and often ignorance) for fans to discuss their teams. (Cf. "No, that's not a 4-5-1, it's a 4-5-3 in attack!" "You're stupid, it's a 4-2-3-1 with wide midfielders who push on", etc.)
