Every player has an off day and we shouldn't write off any player on the basis of one game.
It's true other keepers new to the league started by making similar mistakes. I guess though that the Enlightenment has passed goalkeeping coaches by. That movement encouraged people to believe that they could learn from the mistakes of their predecessors, avoid repeating them themselves, and, you know, progress. Maybe one day a rogue coach will have that light bulb moment: 'Hey, why don't I compile a sort of list of what, typically, new keepers do badly and then train any new ones not to do it? That would maybe stop them all looking amazed at what's unfamiliar to them!'
Quite why Karius has to flap on the job is a mystery. He should have been working on such things since he arrived at Melwood.
I'd say the stupid thing was how people were talking him up while he sat on the bench as if he was going to be a brilliant improvement.
Is Achterberg still "coaching" our keepers or has Klopp brought someone else in?
Achterberg is very much still here. It's quite maddening to see a new keeper make the kind of mistakes that should have been worked on specifically before he was deemed ready for contention. Such is the negativity about Mignolet, some posters just won't judge performances by other keepers rationally. Karius could well turn out to be an excellent keeper but you don't just bung a new keeper into the side. Mignolet now knows he's got real competition, but Karius needs to know that he has the same. He can't flap his way through the next few months. He needs to work way harder in training now, and not just some lazy Achterberg routine but rather on a carefully selected number of technical issues, You can cut and paste old stats from another league all you like, and spout the kind of 'he needs time' cliches that only seem relevant when it suits you. Deal with the here and now - this is a crucial period of the season when we either set ourselves up for a long battle at the top, or fall behind the pack yet again. We can't be offering apprenticeships in the team. This is serious.
Isn't Ming away with Belgium now? There may not be that much opportunity to compare them in training over the next 2 weeks.Karius' confidence would be at least as much at risk from a poor performance against ManUre, with all the extra attention that would draw down on him. His shot-stopping hasn't been tested yet, you can bet whoever's in goal will get tested on his line by the Mancs and that's one area where Mignolet is a proven points-saver.
You're right that Klopp sets great store by what happens in training. That's exactly what he should do now as well. The keeper who trains better during the next fortnight should get the nod against the Scum.

How dare you?Give him time. He'll come good.

I dont know why Mignolet was dropped. He was playing well.
Im sure Karius will be good (law of averages) but players used to have to earn their starting place through the ressies and the bench. I wish we were still that good.
None of yesterday's back five are going on international duty.
