11am today - Rodgers Interview on TalkSport

Not the interview I expected. It's in three parts.

Concentrating on asking him about going to Spain & working under mourinho etc this part, only 15 minutes long.

Nothing of note, not even that interesting really.

Next part he talks about coming here apparently.

I'm pretty sure Rodgers has a mental checklist of words 'communication', 'group', 'ethos' etc that he stole from a business executive in the 90s & uses in every sentence.

Nice chat actually.

Talked about his playing career being cut short ('I was a lefty, gifted technically, played for country at youth level' - congenital knee problem ended playing days at twenty), his visits to Spain to study coaching, his relationship with Maureen, his time at Watford and Reading and Swansea. Nothing much really worth quoting but amiable stuff.

Moved on to discuss his time at LFC. FSG gave him a three year deal and that's the time span he'll be assessed on. He said he felt there was a lot of insecurity around the place when he came in so he concentrated on regaining stability in his first 100 days. Realised there was a lot of work to do.

Admits he thought of himself very much as an outsider in the early days. Talks about reading about the history and meeting lots of old players at LFC functions and enjoying all of that. Says he feels very much a part of the club now.

Asked about the 'where's your Plan B?' cliche. Said he has made changes in past matches such as against Wigan and Everton. Says his Plan B isn't sticking a big centre forward on and 'smashing the ball up to him'. He'll fine tune and make early changes if needed.
About his relationship with the owners: he says they're very good and 'unswerving in their support'. He talks to them at least once a week. Very committed to him and the team.
Thinks they'll continue to help him strengthen the team. [Murray, however, said afterwards that Rodgers was clearly determined not to answer many of his more pressing questions and was good at dodging anything he viewed as too tricky.]

On Suarez: Happy with how he's been training and pleased he's coming back. 'We're getting a 50-60 million pound striker back'. [So that's the price tag confirmed!] Asked about Suarez's disloyalty and his come and get me plea to Arsenal: 'All you can do now is judge him on his performance on the field'. He thinks the supporters will be okay with him so long as he shows commitment, and he's sure Suarez will.

On his approach to management: 'I want to be the one that steers the club back in the direction it should be going in'. Great confidence in the team progressing. Repeats that he now firmly feels an insider at LFC. 'I'll fight as long as I can to be here as long as I can'.

All heard before, really (Murray has an irritating habit of getting Rodgers to relax and mention a name, like Maureen, and then lets him move on without saying anything revealing about them) but pleasant little conversation.

hmm , it will be interesting to see if they wait the full 3 yrs to decide on extending his deal . you would expect that if they are happy with him they will offer him the extension next summer .

Murray on Rodgers: 'He's much cleverer than people give him credit for'. Er, thanks for that, Colin, I'm sure Brendan will be delighted!

You never know. They probably regretted giving out a long term contract to King Kenny and his staff, not to mention the 7m they had to pay Roy after 6 months of dire work.
I doubt Rodgers would have that much a better offer from another club bigger than Liverpool anyway so they probably feel safe in the knowledge that he'll be well up for an extension once the three years are up.

sorry , i can't sit on the fence anymore....i was in belfast recently and tried said Tayto , i wasn't impressed .

Talksport in the morning with Colin Murray show is now like listening Radio 1 without the music....

I fuckin hate it... like listening to a bunch of immature bellends...

Didi Hamman always seems a bit lost when he is on the show, he comes across as the wise one... Probably thinks wtf am I doing here...??? But its a good pay cheque for him... so he rides with it...

Danny Murphy comes across as a good presenter.. he need to team up with someone else.. I'd like him with Adrian Durham... (only because I hate Goughy!!) Even Drivetime has gone over silly now... WTF is it with all the stupid sound effects!!!

Has Danny retired?

Nice summary macca.

It was a nice chat, but I really thought Murray should have pushed him more on the Suarez point if nothing else.

He let him ride with a poor politicians answer, even a simple follow up, like was he disappointed to hear him say he wanted to go to Arsenal?

Yes, it was odd in that they sounded relaxed and chummy but Brendan was actually less forthcoming than he is with the likes of the ludicrous Vinny O'Connor!

I'm no admirer of Darren Gough either, but do you really mean to say you dislike him more than that ginge rentagob Durham?

Yup... Durham you take for what he is.. a wind up merchant.. Darren Gough on the other hand is a 'Stupid Thick Yorkshire Cnut..' and shouldn't be on the Radio for that reason only. So because of that he irritates me more...
