Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Yeah, read about him last year. Apperantly one of the biggest talents in his age group.

I'm actually very excited about the work that is being done in the Acadamy. As Peter and Whitey pointed, loads of talented players that can make the step up.

Not necessarily a good thing. Because then the coaching will be spread out over an entire bunch of kids. So if one of them does step up, his potential development will have been held back by the others. If on the other hand you have a bunch of average shit in the academy, but one or two exceptional players, then you can afford to focus more on coaching them at their own pace and get them in the optimum possible shape when they step up.

"16-year-old striker Armin Hodzic who has been in an alien form the last two years."

He sounds FUCKING AWESOME

Not really mate. Half the battle when you go to see the u16s and younger is trying to hear the names of the players being shouted to know who's who. The game i saw Sinclair and Rossiter tear it up was Sunderland away last season for the u16s in an 8-3 win. They were the two stand out players and were playing a year up on the day so a bit of gossip on the sidelines shed more light on who they were. In fairness the whole team played some quality football so there will be a good few amongst them.
I take it the ones you've listed are the first year scholars for the upcoming season?
Ya they should all be 1st years they were the lesser known players that made up the u16 team last year.

Super Talent Armin Hodzic, or the new Dzeko as he is called in Željeznicar will most likely continue his career in England. Liverpool have shown great interest in the 16-year-old and it also appears to have made it clear the striker.

English big club Liverpool FC will most likely buy Željos biggest talent in years and decades. It is about 16-year-old striker Armin Hodzic who has been in an alien form the last two years. Hodzic has been nicknamed the new Dzeko at home, and it says I am part!

Armin has not only impressed in the domestic league for boys under seventeen. Last fall, he stood for four direct hits in three games for the Bosnian U-17 national team. In Bosnia, the youth made an incredible 46 (!) goals in just some 20 matches!

Everything would turn out to go as it should, so should 16-year-old get a contract with Liverpool which extends to 2017.

Must be a old article that hes 18 in a few months.

Similar bunch of youth players and reserves beat Bury reserves 8-4 earlier today. Hodzic got another goal, as did Smith and Sinclair got 2. Mukendi and Dunn with a penalty also scored, as did 2 new u16 lads no-one seems to have heard of before, Ryan Kent and Josh somebody or other.

Completely unrelated, but I also saw on twitter that Seyi Ojo will be playing with the u18s this season, which considering he just turned 15 a month ago is quite something. Really looking forward to seeing him play - he seems to be the most precocious of all, even among the most hyped kids like Sinclair, Ibe, O'Hanlon and Rossiter.

Yes, but tbh all of O'Hanlon, Ojo, Sterling, Sinclair, and Ibe had very little to do with scouting, and more to do with somehow persuading them to join us ahead of a bunch of other clubs. All apart from Raheem were signed when Comolli was DoF, and considering he was at Spurs when they got Bale in very similar circumstances, I do wonder if he played a big part in getting them here. Hopefully we haven't lost an edge in these deals now he's been sacked; the next big transfer to happen will be of Birmingham's 14 year old prodigy Foday Nabay, who's currently being chased by all the big clubs, including us. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.

About time we entered the Milk cup competition. Man U, Everton, Villa and City have been doing it for years.

Yeah we won it in 1988 with McManaman scoring a hat-trick in the final. The last time we entered was the following year in 1989 with a team comprising Fowler and Dominic Matteo. About time we made a return. Bob Paisley took a keen interest in it, Alex Ferguson was and still is a huge admirer of the competition. It's no coincidence that the teams you mentioned along with Watford, West Ham, Leeds and Charlton have been regular entrants and are the best teams in England for producing first-team players through their youth setup (excluding Southampton).

Whispers on the net about Toni Silva moving to Barnsley.

Anyone heard anything?
Sad if true. He always seemed one of the more exciting youngsters. At times more skillfull than S or S even.

Silva does score goals and is a very tricky player, the problem is that he's not a team player.
He can be extremely selfish at times and he's not very intelligent.
He doesn't have a future at liverpool. He just hasn't matured enough IMO.

I've heard the same rumours, first that it was Coady and now Silva. It's sad for him, but hardly surprising really. He's always lacked that bit of class on the ball that marks out the best youngsters, and of course is ridiculously selfish. Never thought he was even close to being as skillful as Suso or Sterling, personally, but he is very quick and that combined with an immature desire to take on whole defences maybe creates an impression of great ability. My only slight reservation is the first team is so totally lacking pace, goals, and trickery from the wings that it really wouldn't take an exceptional talent to make an impact. Tom Ince, for example, would surely have made a decent contribution last season had he still been here.

So maybe on that basis I'd have preferred another loan, but it's only marginal.

Ojo, Wilson and Rossiter look to be good prospects.

I honestly always thought the Milk Cup was people taking the piss out of the Carling Cup.

Well the League Cup used to be called the Milk Cup, so...

Another interesting point about that side is it's maybe the first one we can reasonably expect to have benefited from all the changes at the academy in 2009, in terms of having a major impact on the local players' technical abilities and how they play the game.

I used to to follow the reserves fairly closely but I've given up over the last season or two. The first team was hard enough to endure!

I sometimes wonder if now would be a good time to pick it up again as we do seem to have a few decent prospects coming along now as opposed to clinging onto a good 6 months by Nemeth or hoping that Zak Whitbread's blonde hair will somehow transform him into Sami Hyypia.

Keni, the Reserves and U18's are a step up in quality over the recent past. We are absolutely loaded with talent.

Watching the younger teams has actually made up for the labours of the first team for me, to a degree anyway. The spark of hope from seeing the talent coming through.

I'm no expert in youth football, and probably no great judge in picking out players at 16-18 who are gonna be good enough for the PL, but in most cases you pick up rumours and positive vibes about who the club think can make it, you know? You just hear enough good things from people who know their stuff that it's just kind of obvious who has a good chance. Even back in 98/99 I thought you could pick up quite easily on the difference in expectation between David Thompson and Gerrard. Well probably the last player we had who generated that kind of buzz was Martin Kelly, and he's come through just as expected.

I'd say all of Suso, Robinson, Wisdom, Sterling and McLaughlin have got that similar buzz around them, and that's just the ones who'll be ready for appearances this season. There's really no doubt this is a much better group than any we've had for years.

Theres too fucking many of them.
I cant keep up with it all. Are there any good ones?

Well the 5 I mentioned are probably the most talented of the older players, the ones who could play a part this season. There are loads of others but they're not gonna trouble the first team this year.

Tykes set for Silva lining
Hill looking forward to adding Liverpool winger to his squad
Last Updated: July 23, 2012 10:37am

Barnsley manager Keith Hill has confirmed he is closing in on the signing of Toni Silva, with the Liverpool winger expected to join on a free transfer.
Silva has not made a first-team appearance for Liverpool, but the 18-year-old featured 15 times on loan for League Two club Northampton Town last season.
Sky Sportsunderstands Silva has rejected Premier League clubs, and top-flight teams from the continent, to move to Oakwell.
Hill has spoken to Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd about Silva and he is looking forward to adding the Portuguese to his squad.

"He's a very talented player, but he's still raw," Hill told theSheffield Star.

Exciting prospect
"We've watched him a few times and we've really been impressed with what we've seen.

"He went on loan to Northampton last season, which was a good experience for him. I spoke to Aidy Boothroyd about him and he agrees that he's an exciting prospect.

"Toni is left-footed and we've been looking for a left-footed winger for a while. But he can also play wide on the right and as a No.10, so he's the type of player we're looking for.

"There's no magic formula about buying players unless you have money, but we're working within a tight budget and doing the best business we can.

"This is a really good signing for the club but there needs to be some patience because he's still a young lad."
