Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Silva and Ngoo looked quite good with the ball at their feet. Or is it just that they're older than the rest?

Is it too late for them?

I'd like to see Ngoo against grown up players to see what he's made of. He looks like an adult gatecrashing a playground.

Silva is an enigma in the Babel mode. Amazing one day and brainless the next. His decision making tends to be pretty poor, and I'm not sure if that is improving. He can look special with ball at feet and running at people though.

I've always put Silva and Ngoo in the same class, in that they look really impressive at times, but somehow you just kind of *know* neither of them will make it. They both just seem to lack that extra bit of technical quality that's so noticeable in the best prospects like Suso, Sterling, McLaughlin, Wisdom, Robinson, and a few others. I'd say at their ages it's really a bit ominous for them that they've not travelled to the US - Ngoo's going to be 20 in October, after all.

If I was being generous I'd say Silva still has something of a chance. He'll naturally improve as he matures and gets less selfish, and he does have talent. I think he'll probably make it at a decent level in the game. Ngoo, though, I'm not so sure. I saw him play at Spurs in the next gen, and that made me realise just what a massive gulf there is between some of these lads and senior professionals. He was absolutely appalling in front of goal - it was embarrassing tbh. He looked about a million miles off the first team, and at 19 that's pretty damning.

Still, hope I'm wrong.

I liked the look of Pelosi last season too, and he seems to be matching the required standard.

Yeh I've heard Pelosi's meant to be really highly rated, but I never really saw him play that much myself. Is he just an all-round midfielder?

Highlights of Saturday's youth team friendly win over Exeter. Useless opposition but still worth checking out new signing Dan Smith (16 year old signed from Crewe for £350k a couple of months back) and Jerome Sinclair, who at 15 is another in the mega-hyped Sterling/Suso category, and one of the major talents signed up in the last year along with Ojo, O'Hanlon, Ibe, and McLaughlin.

Looks a decent player for a 15 year old. Lets hope he can keep his head down and progress.

They were after Pelosi aswell.

Ibe and Sinclair look very exciting. We have quite a few young players now that could make the first team.

He said this after he signed, credit to Borrell and the Acadamy.

Marc Pelosi was told by Pep Guardiola "if you don't go to Barcelona, the second best place to develop is at Liverpool.

I find that hard to believe, considering our record with bringing players through.

For no particular reason, here's a list of all the players who I think have a decent chance of making it (yep, some purely on reputation, but still):

Suso (18)
Sterling (17)
Wisdom (19)
McLaughlin (17)
Robinson (18)
Ojo (15)
Sinclair (15)
Ibe (16)
O'Hanlon (16)
Dunn (17)
Lussey (17)
Pelosi (18)
Jones (16)
Flanagan (19)
Morgan (18)
Dan Smith (16)
Brad Smith (18)
Coady (19)

That's 18 genuinely promising players. If 3 make it and stick around it'll have been worth it. If 6 make it it'd be amazing.

Played central midfield in the two games ive seen him. Runs the game from there, has great timing about his game and is a real goal threat. Despite being a young 15 he'll probably feature for the u18s before the end of the season when a few are let go to find new clubs.

You've missed Rossiter off your list. I think hes 15 now and one of the best in the country at his age group.

Yep, heard about him too. Clean forgot about him - never seen him play a minute of football, mind. I also forgot Baio to make it a nice round 20.

The pedigree compared to the youth cup winning sides of 06 & 07 is pretty impressive. I followed those teams as well, and, hand on heart, there were very few players in them I felt would make it. Spearing was good but tiny (obviously), and Jack Hobbs and Paul Anderson were decent but nothing spectacular. That was about it.

No love for Adorjan? I've been more impressed by him than the likes of Morgan or Coady from the few games I've been able to catch.

He's got talent but I'd be amazed if he makes it at LFC. I reckon almost all those 20 we've named have got a better chance than him, simply because he plays in a position where there's always loads of competition and he can't really do anything else. You have to be outrageously good to break through playing the key creative role in the team - I just don't see him doing enough.

Nacho seems like a decent talent too.

Yeah, he does actually, tbf. He's pretty much unheralded and not that young, but he's always looked really tidy whenever I've seen him. Another one I forgot is Joao Carlos Teixeira. And Vilyan Bijev. All three of them are 18+ and so should really be pushing for senior appearances by now, but have all looked to have something whenever I've seen them. Guess you can add them to Adorjan, Ngoo, Sama, Silva et al as the outsiders, although that's maybe a bit harsh on Teixeira given his injuries.

You seem to know your stuff whitey. Have you got an opinion on some of the other less glamorous or well knowwn players coming through
such as heaton, jones, cleary, marsh, randall , williams and wilson?

Not really mate. Half the battle when you go to see the u16s and younger is trying to hear the names of the players being shouted to know who's who. The game i saw Sinclair and Rossiter tear it up was Sunderland away last season for the u16s in an 8-3 win. They were the two stand out players and were playing a year up on the day so a bit of gossip on the sidelines shed more light on who they were. In fairness the whole team played some quality football so there will be a good few amongst them.
I take it the ones you've listed are the first year scholars for the upcoming season?

Saw this name today in the offal report and only just realised that he was signed last season. Apparently a goal scoring sensation.

Armin Hodzic
181cm (6ft)
He has won the Bosnian FA award for the best player in his age group this year.
Athletic, modern, dribbler, intelligent.
40 goals in the kadet liga for Zeljo, and then this year at 15/16, he's scored 46 goals already in something like 23 games." Turned 16 in November 2011

Super Talent Armin Hodzic, or the new Dzeko as he is called in Željeznicar will most likely continue his career in England. Liverpool have shown great interest in the 16-year-old and it also appears to have made it clear the striker.

English big club Liverpool FC will most likely buy Željos biggest talent in years and decades. It is about 16-year-old striker Armin Hodzic who has been in an alien form the last two years. Hodzic has been nicknamed the new Dzeko at home, and it says I am part!

Armin has not only impressed in the domestic league for boys under seventeen. Last fall, he stood for four direct hits in three games for the Bosnian U-17 national team. In Bosnia, the youth made an incredible 46 (!) goals in just some 20 matches!

Everything would turn out to go as it should, so should 16-year-old get a contract with Liverpool which extends to 2017.

Yeah, read about him last year. Apperantly one of the biggest talents in his age group.

I'm actually very excited about the work that is being done in the Acadamy. As Peter and Whitey pointed, loads of talented players that can make the step up.

Michael Ngoo was on the mark as Liverpool Reserves beat USA U20s 4-2 on Thursday afternoon.
In an exciting friendly encounter at the Academy, Rodolfo Borrell's young side played some superb football and will be delighted with this victory.

Conor Coady played his first game since returning from England U19 duty in the European Championships, and Toni Silva was again on top form after returning from his loan spell with Northampton Town last season.

Joining Ngoo on the mark were Silva, Bosnian youngster Armin Hodzic and Marc Pelosi.
