Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Nice run from the left into the box from Sterling, who shoots beyond the keeper but just past the post.

Another nice lay off from Adorjan to Sterling, who runs into the area, shoots and just shaves the post.

Late breakaway goal - Sterling gets beyond the defenders, gets in the area, picks out Ngoo who taps it in,. 4-1.

4-1 FT. A very good performance. No real weaknesses. Mendy did well out of position on the left. McLaughlin had a fine game on the right. Wisdom looked imperious at times in the centre. Suso spent so much time in the second half providing defensive cover on the right we didn't see much of him in attack, but he had a fine 30 minutes in the first half and a deserved goal - his work rate has improved dramatically this season. Coady was playing in a deeper and more disciplined position, which I thought was a waste of his real talents but he did a nice quiet job. Adorjan was frustratingly erratic, as he often is, but did better in the second half when he had more time and space and played some nice little passes to Sterling. Sterling was very, very, good - tremendous industry (one minute attacking, the next back in defence, the next bombing on again) - and was always dangerous. Eccleston also did really well - a big chance to impress tonight and he did so, and scored a good goal. Ngoo plays like he's possessed by Ronnie Rosenthal - quite unpredictable, sometimes mad, but fascinating with his power and pace and tricks, and Sterling handed him his late goal on a plate. All in all, a very impressive performance.

You're very welcome. Let's hope it was a good omen for the first team because these lads have created loads of chances in other matches and not taken any of them. This time they were pretty clinical.

I remember watching Ngoo a couple years back and thinking he had a lot of potential. It was a bit like watching a young Yaya Toure up front. Shame he doesn't appear to have progressed all that much.

I'd love to see Sterling get a few decent run outs before the season ends. In a way it's a great time to give him a go. We're crap, everyone is disillusioned with the team and half expects us to lose every time we step onto the field... there is no pressure whatsoever.

LFC U18s defender Matty Regan is having a trial at Nottingham Forest and will play for their reserves.

Crewe Alex: Youth star Dan Smith leaves for Liverpool in six-figure deal

Apr 18 2012 by Peter Morse, Crewe Chronicle
CREWE Alex have lost their battle to stop highly-rated midfielder Dan Smithleaving for the Premier League, the Chronicle can reveal.
The Alex hoped the England youth international would stay after his proposed switch to Manchester City fell through last month.
But it has emerged Liverpool hijacked the move and sealed a six-figure deal for the 16-year-old.
Club insiders are devastated at the loss of the star prospect who was painstakingly developed at the Alex academy.

But the fee, thought to be about £300,000 with extra for appearances, will ease financial pressure following the £1m loss posted in their latest accounts.
Alex spokesman Rob Wilson said: “We are naturally disappointed that Dan has decided to sign for Liverpool.
“The club has received an undisclosed fee and future add-ons but we would have much preferred to have seen him play for our first team.”
Smith, from Staffordshire, who is in his final year at secondary school, arrived at Crewe, aged 11.
He quickly progressed, earned international honours and caught the eye of scouts across the country.
He signed scholarship forms with the Alex but soon saw his future elsewhere.
Smith used social networking site Twitter to announce his move, posting a picture of himself alongside manager Kenny Dalglish under the message ‘signing for Liverpool’.
His departure is a blow to Crewe’s mission to keep their best young players but academy director James Collins has already reassured fans it will not unsettle other youngsters.
And the cash injection could strengthen the Alex’s bargaining position when big clubs come calling for Nick Powell in the summer.
Meanwhile, on-loan winger Billy Bodin is hoping his good luck against Cheltenham Town will continue on Saturday (3pm).
The 20-year-old scored his first career goal against the Robins for Torquay in September and aims to repeat the feat when they visit Gresty Road for a vital play-off clash.
Bodin, who is still searching for his first Alex goal, said: “I’m pretty happy with the way I’ve contributed but a few goals would have been better.
“I’ve scored against Cheltenham already this season and hopefully I’ll get another on Saturday.
“We were disappointed not to get three points at Macclesfield because we outplayed them but we are still right in there.”
Sixth-placed Cheltenham are just two points above Crewe and have won just two in 10.
Mark Yates’s men have lost their last five away fixtures, without scoring a goal in their last four, and star loan keeper Jack Butland was recalled by Birmingham this week.
The Railwaymen, unbeaten in 13, have a full bill of health and are aiming to complete the double over their guests.
Boss Steve Davis said: “The players are in good spirits and realise the importance of Saturday and what they can achieve. It is a crunch game.”

Can we offer Crewe Wisdom & Suso on loan for a season plus £1m for Nick Powell........PLEASE KENNY!

Crewe's top scorer?
Is he any good P?
I mentioned him over a year ago Count (before I'd even seen him play) because some Crewe fans were saying that he was the MOST exciting prospect they've ever seen and given how many very good players they've produced it seemed like a promising endorsement.

I've since seen him play 3 times and many other highlight clips etc on TV and he seems to have it all...he reminds me very much of SG.

The last player in this division I was this excited about was Joe Hart when he was with Shrewsbury and I suggested we should be looking at him.......hopefully Kenny reads my posts.
