Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Under 18s Team v Huddersfield

Belford, McLaughlin, Sokolik, Rafferty, Regan, Quirk, Lussey, Ibe, Nacho, Peterson, Morgan

If you've tuned in late - the match started at 11 - Morgan's shaved his hair off, perhaps in solidarity with Shelvey, so he is playing even though he looks very different. Kenny and Comolli are watching. Huddersfield look a very confident side.

Ibe looks quite a prospect - quick, clever and progressive. He dallies on the ball sometimes but he'll learn not to do that. Nacho is interesting to watch. He's given the ball away a couple of times, but he's had some good touches and a shot charged down.

Half time 1-0. We finished very strongly with good pass and move and a few attempts on goal. Ibe looked exciting - the fact he was thumped a couple of times by Huddersfield defenders was testimony to his threat. He runs well with the ball, he beats players and he even hit a great crossfield pass to start another move. Nacho started quietly but eventually settled and scored a really good goal from outside the area. Peterson did pretty well on the left, with enough pace to beat his man several times. I've slated Belford in recent games because he's had some howlers but he looks back to his best in this game (apparently all the keepers go to Melwood once a week to be coached on distribution by Pepe, and Belford is certainly distributing the ball much better these days).

That was a poor effort from Morgan.
Bit of a nothing ball from Peterson as well, that almost came to something🙄 .

McLaughlin will become a better fullback than Flanno.
And he'll play for the republic.

Fuck me I take it all back. Great goal Morgo

EDIT it was deflected. Previous statement stands.

Sokolik the next Skrtel.
Ibe's head isn't in the game too many mistakes.
Lussey doing well.

Sinclair's the player we bought from West Brom last year - he's not quite 15 and here he is playing with much more experienced teammates.

Great close-range double save from Belford. He's really come through that bad period to look very solid again.

Nice little cameo by Sinclair, especially for one so young.
Looks like one to keep an eye out for.

FT 2-1. A good performance all round I thought.

Belford had his best game for quite a while in goal.

The defence looked good, with very solid performances from McLaughlin, Sokolik and Regan. Lussey was busy and inventive in midfield, as usual, although he tended to over-complicate things when the simple pass was on. I really enjoyed watching Ibe - he tired in the second half, but he's big, strong and fast and he'll keep improving. Nacho took time to get going and drifted a bit from his position but scored a really nice goal and played some clever passes. Morgan was direct and aggressive but he needs to improve his touch; his long-range goal was good, and I think it was on its way in anyway before it was deflected. Jordan Sinclair got a good little run out at the end and for a fourteen year old he did well, beating two men to shoot just over in the final five minutes.

Exciting to see Sinclair make an appearance - he's another in the Sterling and Ibe hype range, isn't he? I think he is actually already 15, though, btw.

I'm not sure when his birthday is, as far as I know it's not quite yet.

Edit: I stand corrected, it looks as though he turned 15 a short while ago!

Good to see Kenny there again. He watches most of the matches at every level, and there are not many other manahers who do that.
