The Villa job is a horrible one. Lambert has shown good things in the past. Not that I care about Lambert or Villa.

But....

"Can work with fuck all money
Tactically excellent
Gets the max out of average players
Has played at the highest level
Seems like a thoroughly decent guy"

Managers are like players in that very good managers can have bad seasons too. Lambert has the potential to become a very good manager but he's made a bit of a mess of it this season so far. Ryan's analysis was correct at the time and Lambert will probably get his act together (although maybe he won't be given time to do it at Villa). They were a shambolic mess last night.

I remember you were very high on Lambert - more so than any other young managers. You and Ryan are worrying me greatly.

I seem to remember suggesting that Rodgers and Lambert both had the potential to become great managers. I then suggested I'd edge towards Lambert as he was slightly more likely to be the Messiah than Rodgers.

I've been wrong before and will continue to get stuff wrong but I KNOW Joe Allen is a superb player and I THINK Lambert will become a very good (possibly even great) manager. Don't forget Bill Shankly got sacked by Huddersfield before taking us to the top, Ferguson, who took Aberdeen to unprecedented success, was a failure for 7 years at United before turning it around, Wenger has had numerous bad seasons but overall will be remembered as a great manager etc, etc.

In England we seem to be more overly concerned (than on continent) when managers fail at one or 2 clubs.

It doesn't make them a bad manager.
