I think Neil is trying out a new persona here, trouble is he's "hehehe, yeah" funny not "HAHAHA, LOL".
Work on it.

I think Spearing is a good squad option to have. Better say to keep him, than spend xx million on wages/fee for a back up.

He's really not mate, he's shit. a defensive midfielder that doesn't actually protect the defence.

He was a squad player for us this season and proved not to be up the job when called upon.

You're judging him based on his last few games it seems - where he's been very poor. He was excellent last year with Lucas, and had a solid season.

True, but he only had 16 appearances last season and most of them beside a fellow defensive midfielder, Lucas.

Ok he was solid enough last season but he's struggled without Lucas(Adam's kinda the same but he has other attributes which Spearing doesn't) and being a holding player, you'd think he could do a decent job at protect the defencing - winning tackles, passing the ball accurately etc but he couldn't do that

It's the Lucas factor, seems like he's making anyone playing beside him better.

Is he really a DM though? He's never been good at protecting a defense - even on the reserve level. I dunno, I think he's a good squad option - lowish wages, scouse, gives 110%, etc ... I'm not expecting him to start 40 games and be a key player - just a player we can rotate in when needed.

As for other players:

Coates - Potential starting CB of high quality. I don't know how good he can be, but he seems good enough already and he's barely player this year.

Shelvey - The tools are there. I think he can be a very productive player for us.

Henderson - The tools are there. His head isn't. If that doesn't change, he'll never make it.

Kelly - Will be a solid player as he is now at worst. Can get better ...

Flannagan - Solid squad member - but no more.

Robinson - Tough to tell really ... but he can be a good one.

Sterling - too early to tell for me, but he's exciting and if he dedicates himself fully, he could make it.

It's just that 110 % isn't enough if you havent got the skills. He's just not good enough, scouse or not.
It's happened before.
See, Thompson, Stephen Wright, Warnock all scousers but they were just not good enough.

Stephen Wright? That's harsh.

Thompson could have been a very good back up for us - I seem to remember he was flogged off for other reasons, no?

Warnock would have been a good back up option - instead of shelling out 7 million on Dossena, or millions on Aurelio's salary.

I seem to remember Thompsons career going down the drain when he left.
Warnock was wrong though, I agree.

Peltier, Otsembor, Welsh...

There we go Welsh. Spearing is a clone of John Welsh. No worse, no better.

You leave Fabio alone you bitch

His spot on the treatment table isn't even cold yet

So because they couldn't cut the grade, we should dump Spearing? He's shown enough in one and a half seasons that shows he can be a good squad option. I cannot believe you're comparing him to a player who has how many PL starts under his belt? I think it's fairly clear we've not got great sums of cash behind us, and we need to ensure we buy top notch quality so we can actually compete next year. Losing a player like Spearing, and replacing him with a CM version of Voronin etc, is stupid. Keep him until Coady can take his playing time, or whatever.

Don't make me ban you Fabio.

I think Elm for £6 Million is a better option than Spearing, but I get what you're saying.
Anyway, Coady? You should read what they're saying on RAWK, he hasn't impressed at all.
I've said it myself. Recently he was left out of the U19 squad for Euro's.

6 million + wages = less money to buy a Belhanda. What would make us better? We need to invest ALL available sums into first class talent. Forget these squad fillers, that's why you have yer kids.

What stuff has been said about Coady? He's had a poor season -

What is he then? Because he certainly hasn't shown anything going forward.

Each to their own man, you think he's good enough as a squaddie, i personally think we need better even for a squad player.

If Elm isn't a shit hot talent then we're better saving the money and pumping it into skilful attacking talent.

I'm not sure about Coady either.

I'll ask the question = Average player's fee & wages to replace Spearing, or Spearing + 6 million extra on a better player.

This is how the Mancs stayed dominant for 20 years ... BIG money signings to strengthen good team, plus always having reserves who are capable when called upon (Phil Neville, Wes Brown, Macheda etc)

Coady hasn't progressed in fact he has stagnated. Recently he was playing in defence again. I think they're trying to turn him into a DM.
Look at to our latest U19 purchases, Teixeira from Sporting CM, Dan Smith from Crewe CM.
Now we're linked with Powell as well.

When was the Powell link?

It's a great idea but you also need replacements who are good enough. Spearing at 24 can't measure himself with Nicky Butt at the same age.

He can do a solid job though, as he showed last year ... They all don't have to be at x level, as the team should be good enough to ensure his contribution isn't critical.

Phil Neville and Wes Brown were decent back up players for United though - dependable and solid. Spearing imo isn't.

I'm not expecting every single player in the squad to be top quality because even the best sides in the world, have grafters without the skill. However we need players that can come in and do a solid job, i just dont think Spearing's capable of that.

He just runs and runs without making a worthwhile contribution by way of a tackle, interception, a pass. Seriously he offers fuck all and is probably a Championship player at best, said he was maybe a Bolton or Wigan type player but even that's pushing it because he's not Prem League standard imo. Nice lad who gives his all but he's not a very good footballer.
