Yossi Benayoun

A "winger" who hates to play out wide, and hence drifts in central where we allready are overcrowded... Or a back up in a central position were we allready have to many covers which we cant get rid off... Silly idea.

Whilst his best position is undoubtedly in the hole, he's pretty decent on the right as well.

Yes, he may cut in, but with width provided by Downing on the left, and constant movement from Suarez, I don't think it's really a biggie.

The bottom line is he's creative, he can pick those defence-splitting passes, he can score goals and he's a decent player.

If he's cheap (fee and wages) I'd be more than happy to bring him back

I think if this was true - it would be good for us. I think that Suarez was really our only creative outlet last season, and having Yossi back would be a bonus plus he does score goals.

Benny Onion won't return. That would be daft. Give the likes of Suso and Sterling a go instead.

The rumours are hotting up again re Benayoun. If we sell Aqua and ship Cole out I would love Benny back. Was the wrong choice to sell him, but that was one of Rafas nore baffeling calls.

Would give us a lot of options.

I've been told there's something to this story and don't be surprised if we make a move for Bellamy.

would love bellemy back but doubt it will happen.

Yossi Benayoun, the 31 year old attacking midfielder/winger who plays for Chelsea, has been generating curiosity with his twitter account for the past couple of hours.

The former Liverpool man tweeted this as a pre-match post for his followers on twitter before the Chelsea game: ‘Well first home game of the season soon..I'm on the bench,,we hope for a good start!’

But it was the tweet he made after the match which caught everyone’s attention:-

"Well I hope to give you all some news till wednesday

regarding my future..thanks again for all the support!"

The move might be a consequence of the racist remarks he got from the fans in Malaysia during Chelsea’s pre-season tour. Any player in the world would be unhappy with a club which doesn’t take action If one of its wantaway players is abused and doesn’t give him playing time either.

During the 2011 Tour of Asia, in the friendly game against the Malaysia XI team, Benayoun suffered xenophobic booing from the Malaysian crowd each time he touched the ball. It was reported that "The occasion was soured by the repeated jeering of Israel midfielder Benayoun by the 85,000-strong crowd..." another source reported that "Muslim-majority Malaysia is a staunch supporter of the Palestinians and has no diplomatic ties with Israel. The midfielder was jeered throughout his appearance for the first half of the friendly. (Wikipedia.com)

If Yossi transfers to another club, the move will probably be the one which a player makes prior to his retirement, but we wish him all the best for his future…with Chelsea, or without.

Wouldn't want him unless he's a straight swap for Cole.

or if cole is released.

Nope. Yossi is not the quality of player I'd want the club to be spending money on right now, particularly when it's just to strengthen the bench.
A swap would Cole would make sense.
It would be stupid to release Cole and pay him the rest of his contract (millions), then to go spend even more money (millions) on Yossi (who's on very good wages) just so we can put him on the bench.

Did Yossi tweet anything?
He said on Twitter that even though if he doesnt know he will stay or not he has decided to give Mata his number 10. His lucky number is 15. Our 15 in the squad is empty.

I think Yossi might be one step too many for us, I wouldn't be against it though. We need to offload Cole, Poulsen and Degen first.

Yossi Benayoun may make a surprise return to Liverpool with Chelsea set to sell him to his former club or the French champions, Lille. A decision could be made this afternoon on which club has succeeded in acquiring the Israeli international.

If Benayoun returns to Anfield then it might pave the way for Raul Meireles to leave Liverpool. It’s understood the Portuguese international, currently out injured, wants to quit Merseyside because he believes his first-team opportunities will be limited by Kenny Dalglish’s summer signings.

Chelsea have expressed an interest in acquiring Meireles and it’s understood the two clubs are discussing the possibility of Benayoun being included in a player-plus-cash exchange.

However Liverpool would prefer Meireles, if he is to leave, to move abroad and not remain in the Premier League. With the midfield signings made by Dalglish, Meireles has lost his place in the starting XI for now. He was injured in the Carling Cup last week.

Meireles is thought to be available for around £11m – although Liverpool may demand more from Chelsea – and is admired by Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas who worked with him briefly at Porto.

Benayoun has indicated on his Twitter site for the past couple of weeks that he is likely to leave Chelsea, who he signed for last summer, and recently gave up his number 10 shirt to new arrival Juan Mata.

Yesterday Benayoun tweeted: “negotiating with several team (sic) … news soon.” The two clubs are Liverpool and also the highly-ambitious French champions, Lille. If Benayoun signs for them it might raises questions over their Belgian international midfielder Edin Hazard who has been wanted by Arsenal.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, Lille are also thought to be strongly in contention to sign Benayoun and can offer him Champions League football this season. Benayoun has grown surplus to requirements a Chelsea, where he has struggled to gain regular first-team football and has suffered from serious injury.

It’s understood to be highly unlikely that Benayoun will remain at Chelsea.

surely we won't be stupid enough to sell meireles to chelsea ? Why would we try and strengthen a rival ? Argh i hope this is all shite .

I'd suggest quoting the Chavs a silly fee for Meireles, but Abramovich might call our bluff and accept. Best to simply reject the idea IMO.

On the Yossi front, there was something on the radio today about Tottenham also being interested.

we can't be that stupid, we can't!

*cough* poulsen 5m *cough*

okay, we can be that stupid but you'd hope not in this case.

Yossi Benayoun

08/09
21 games | 5 assist | 48 chances created | 8 goals | 34 successful dribbles

09/10
19 games | 4 assist | 47 chances created | 6 goals | 25 successful dribbles

Maxi & Cole combined:

10/11
33 games | 1 assist | 44 chances created | 12 goals | 25 successful dribbles
just imagine how effective he would have been if he didn't go back to turn the defender again.
Problem is half of Yossi's "successful dribbles" are probably going back towards our own goal.
beat ya to it 😉

i dont want Yossi. He spurned us for chelsea now can't get a game. if he want's to go anywhere he should look further down

I hope the Yossi speculation is BS. He's past his best, been injured for too long (and will probably spend more time injured if he stays in the PL) and is not the way forward for us. Let him go to Spurs, Lille whoever. Not us.
Meireles on the other hand can still be a valuable player for us. I hope he stays.
I find it amazing to read that he might go to Chelsea looking to play more. Really?! They've got Lampard, Mata, Malouda, Kalou, Mikel, Ramires. Why would he go there?
