Yesil

As long as he doesn't become like abou diaby and consistently have long term injuries, I'm confident about this lad... For some reason

So why does he never get a look in? He's been here a good while.

I think it's just injuries really. Initially he was new and learning the ropes in the reserves. Who knows, without injury he might have progressed by now, as the likes of Ibe has.

We should play this lad up front for the last six games.By the end of the season he will have scored enough goals to propel us into a CL place, before the opposition even get a chance to find out who he is, never mind work out a plan how to mark him.

It depends what happens from here on in. Hopefully he now gets stronger and has a good run of games.

They're complementary, really. IMHO. Two very different types. Sinclair is yet another player who, like Ibe, Sterling, Sturridge, Harrry Wilson and Ryan Kent, can go wide or play deeper as well as play centrally, and he's a very good prospect, but I think all of those would benefit from having a player like Yesil who keeps making clever runs inside the box.

That first goal of his in particular is very, very impressive. If the sign of a good player is that he makes space and time for himself, you won't see a better example than that.

Sign me up, macca. 😎

I like him, but I worry he could be a Borini (who also makes clever runs in the box and they seem to have similar decent pace). Yesil appears to be a very good finisher at u21 level, but will he be able to finish against top defenders.

Given the cost, certainly worth taking a look.

I don't think Borini has ever looked like a finisher. He's always struck me as a bits and pieces player who'll maybe make space for someone to finish but hasn't got the finisher's instinct himself. Yesil was very aptly nicknamed 'Little Gerd' when he was a German youth player because he always showed that natural ability to stick the ball in the net. Wenger was in for him when we got him, probably for the same reason that he offers something the neither team, then and now, really has.

He's the one striker at the club who really senses what space in the area he should run into. He can ghost into places where a chance arises. He can shoot from outside the area, he can exploit fast counter attacks, he can do all the tricks but at his best he's also ruthless at sniffing out chances in the box. The yawning gap in the area that we usually see when our attacks break down - that's waiting for Yesil.

First goal at about 3.20, second at about 5.30 here:

Thanks, sounds promising.

i watched that video, and yeah he took his goals well but the defending was so deplorable it's hard to properly analyse his efforts.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for him. I always think you can tell more about a striker from the chances they miss weirdly enough.

What's the go with Ryan Kent? He looked tidy in that video, never seen him before to be honest.

Kent's really bombing on. He's at that age where he's got no fear, he's exceptionally fast and isn't even cocky, he just tends to ignore defenders as he flies past them. Him and Harry Wilson are tremendous prospects - both are great playing wide but both can also play more centrally and score goals.

Cheers for that video macca.

A few players catching the eye. Wilson, Canos, Kent & Yesil.

Our goalie only had one real save to make, although he failed miserably at saving it. No way that should have gone in so close to him from that distance.

You have. He's the one who signed a new contract recently and you remarked about his gigantic watch. 😉

Very good player - I've been saying for a while here now that he doesn't get the accolades and enquiries that some of his peers get. He's got really good star potential. I posted this clip below some time back; it's a year old so most (all?) of the action in it is from his U18 days.

Proper, pacy player who can run with the ball and keep it under control with both feet, has some good tricks, and a proper shot on him. Bonus is that he's been with the club since 7, so hopefully he won't give us contract headers in future. 😀

Is his contract expiring soon or have we offered him a new contract?

Yesil or Kent? Kent signed a new one just a few weeks ago. Yesil's got a year to run on his (transfermarkt) - I suppose we're going to see how he returns from his injuries and judge in the days ahead.

I think you linked the second goal earlier, I thought that looked deflected.

The first goal however... that looked...it looked Fowler-esque.

When is this cunt gonna arrive then?? More importantly WHY is he not in th eteam yet considering how fucking gash we've been up front?

Cheers, I meant Yesil. What do we do with him to see if he earns a new contract? Loan him out or play him in the reserves?

Christ, he's a real talent. I wasn't expecting that at all.

Also something really minor, but wonderful thing nonetheless... There's 2 or 3 lads in that youth set-up - Canos, Wilson, Yesil, Kent - who's first movement when they receive the ball is to turn and face the goal. Might sound stupid, but far too many players are geared these days to just control and retain possession - be it sideways, backwards, whatever.

I remember the first time I saw Rooney play for Everton it was exactly what struck me; first instinct is to turn and face the goal - even if he's 50 yards out.

Those kids do that. Watch that Kent video if you haven;t seen it folks, there's a real talent there.

He turns 21 next month, so he'll be a senior in the U21s next season if he still plays at that level. Probably will do so for a start to get back into the groove and put himself back into the sights of club scouts looking to loan our players. I'd like to think that if he does get a new contract at 21, it means we think he has a chance of making it, and will send him out on loan for the second half of the season if there's interest in him.

Speaking of Canos - he's 18 now and this is him at 16, playing for Barcelona. Shame we'll eventually have to return him to them one day. Crazy, crazy talent.

We don't quite exploit the pace of Kent and Wilson to the full in the reserves - we mirror the first team's forward-back-forward passing style when we mount an attack, so they only really get the chance to bomb on when we go on the break, but when they do run, Christ, it's enough to traumatise most defenders.
