WWIII Return of the Ruskie

This book highlights the political and social ramifications of climate change as well as other issues. Terrifying.

It's well worth a read.

The fact check service I use says there's no evidence to support any of it and it's just a conspiracy.

Did they actually claim so? Stanitsa Luhanska is on the Ukrainian side, no one would believe Ukraine randomly chose to shell their own village.

In fact there was shelling from the Russian side on the whole perimeter of Donbas front line today and jusging from the reports it’s continuing. Not the volume and intensity you would expect for an invasion, just a way to express their displeasure I guess…

So if a shell hit and broke through that wall, how did the football stay on the shelf ?

Is that the same source with the photocopies of diaries?

Lucas's Russian cousin was the one doing the shooting.

Sorry. Are you suggesting that the FBI arrested someone for having a diary belonging to Joe Biden's daughter , who released copies of it online, but he never actually had it ?

What the fuck are you on about, you mentalist? Where did I suggest that?

Russia's response to US offers little sign of a diplomatic breakthrough

Any sign of a breakthrough in East-West diplomacy?

Not if Russia’s eleven-page written response to Washington’s proposal is anything to go by.
The letter is full of criticism of the United States. The tone is bitter, impatient and pretty uncompromising.
Moscow detected “no constructive answer” from the US to Russia’s key demands, such as an end to Nato enlargement eastwards.
Russia is not softening its stance. It’s insisting that all US troops and weaponry be withdrawn from central and eastern Europe, south-eastern Europe and the Baltics. Hard to see America agreeing to that.
Then came the threat. It’s one that President Putin has already delivered: that if Moscow fails to receive the “legally binding security guarantees” it seeks, it will react with “military-technical means.”
What would those be? Moscow’s not saying - intentionally. To keep the West guessing.
Today’s expulsion of the deputy US ambassador to Moscow adds to the general sense of diplomacy stalling. Washington interprets the move as an escalation.
Russia doesn’t want to be seen to be closing the door to dialogue. And there are some areas – like arms control and risk reduction – where common ground could be found. But Moscow has made it quite clear its main concerns have not been addressed.

Shit, this is not looking good. Lots of shelling coming from the Russian sides of the occupied Donbas territories, which seems to be escalating. Meanwhile, the Russian TV immediately claims it's the Ukrainians doing the shelling (even though they are under strict orders not to respond in order not to give a pretext for war) and simply using the images and videos of the aftermath of shelling on the Ukrainian side and claiming those was taken on the Russian side. This is as weak as the pretexts go, but apparently they don't care at this point.

Russia gearing up for nuclear drills. Is that a real thing?

Yeah, Pu will personally show off his cool nuclear briefcase and test the pressability of the red button, probably while riding a bear. It’s all theater - this is a man who is absolutely paranoid about any threats to his life and health and had multiple Botox injections done to look younger. He has no intentions to die in a ball of nuclear fire, but he does love a bit of attention.

Ukraine probably should have hung on to their nukes. Oh well. At least Joe Biden is gearing up to send them thoughts and prayers. He will stand by them in solidarity and be personally touched by each death, unlike the former president who wouldn't stand by anyone in solidarity.

The forces and logistics to invade and hold down a huge land mass like Ukraine would make their foray into Afghanistan look like a tea party in my opinion. Does Russia have the necessary will and resources for decades of conflict? Even the mighty USA can't hold down countries without severe loss of blood and treasure.

A non-aligned Ukraine as a buffer state between Russia and NATO member states makes sense but if Russia could mount a successful invasion then Russian forces would be closer to both Poland, Germany etc etc. That's not a basis for peaceful cooperation either.

Which I guess is a reason why Russia would like Ukraine to stay as it is, a non-Nato member.
