Trying to take the ball of Hendo? For all the grief Mario had apparently caused us, I struggle to think of an incident where he specifically has done something wrong

As discussed at length.Trying to take the ball of Hendo?
Aren't players also under order to obey the captain on the field? As discussed at length.
Mario was designated by Rodgers to be our second choice penalty taker (behind Gerrard).
Mario was following orders
Everyone else wasn't
Aren't players also under order to obey the captain on the field?
Or was he doing the right thing by embarrassing the leader of the team?
You ask, captain says no, you say fair enough. That's all there is to it.
Exactly my feelings nowIt was obvious from day one that it was an Fsg signing.
The guy is a decent bloke and all but I just wish he wasn't our problem.
We could have got a better return last season from Yesil and still have had 16 million in the bank.
I think he's a top bloke and all but he's insanely thick.
I mean really stupid like .
Take for example the other day when he went to his twitter account to state his feelings about Sterling and how Liverpool are a family and all that jazz.
You could tell his intentions were good but he's so fucking dumb that he came out looking the bad guy again.
We really need to get shut of him though he's massively talented when he's on but the circus that surrounds him will never be worth the hassle.
Yeah I'm not buying into the notions that he didn't put in a shift.Exactly my feelings now
It's sad, as he had grown up with us (less antics), but he just didn't fit us.
To be fair, everyone who was required to play up front last season failed to some extent, because the team failed to supply any real service to the striker. That was true for players who knew the other players and Rodgers' preferences inside out, like Sterling. To bring in a player who knows nothing of that, and hasn't played like that at all, and then just poke the ball at him with his back to goal and expect him to 'make it count' was just naive, or, more likely, pretty cynical.
It seems as if people are using sterling as a way to knock the other strikersThey didn't play the same with Sterling. Coutinho was pushed up closer to him, Henderson was encouraged to give him more support, as were the wing backs. If you think Sterling was left isolated about ten yards from the penalty area, with balls pumped at him from distance, and this magical midget somehow chested the ball down, turned the two defenders covering him and scored his goals that way in a masterclass for the others, then god knows what games you saw. Sterling wasn't simply 'pushed up' - Rodgers did what he wasn't doing for his big strikers and actually contrived ways to give him support and decent service. To suggest the team played exactly the same for both players and Sterling somehow changed his game to capture great big straight aerial punts in the middle of the pitch is simply, but gobsmackingly, disingenuous.
Not sure about that.It seems as if people are using sterling as a way to knock the other strikers
The amount of times balotelli /Lambert were standing on the edge of the box with the ball, patiently waiting for sterling/Coutinho /Henderson to move in to /around the box and create space for them, was just ridiculous
It's like Rodgers tried to make balotelli and Lambert fail, like some kind of protest for not getting a better striker last year
Not sure about that.
Lambert made plenty of runs behind the defence, which our players would pick out, but he'd either lose the ball, get outpaced or wait for others to slowly join in.
Whereas with Sterling he could do his own thing due to his pace and trickery. So didn't have to wait for others.
Same with Sturridge, same with Suarez.
It's just that the other strikers from last year couldn't do what those three could do.
I was kind of arguing the point that 'they didn't play the same with Sterling'.Lambert and Balotelli were effectively asked to play like Sturridge. They clearly can't because they have a very different set of attributes and as such were set up to fail by a manager that must've recognized that asking guys like Lambert to run in behind is futile.
I was kind of arguing the point that 'they didn't play the same with Sterling'.
Which is exactly what the team DID do.
And thus the failure of the strikers, as you pointed out.

And you need to take a hard look at what I was discussing rather than what you seem to think I'm discussing.

Heh which side are you on Rurik?
I think you guys who are on the side of "Rodgers set them up to fail" should first figure out which of those 2 arguments to use. I can't argue against 2 mutually exclusive things, so I'll just step aside.
Goal.com said:The Reds striker is on the market at nearly half what was paid for him last summer but the Italian club's president, Massimo Ferrero, is not willing to meet their price as is
Sampdoria are keen on rescuing Mario Balotelli from his frustrations at Liverpool but want the Premier League side to reduce their €10 million (£7.1m) asking price.
The 24-year-old quickly fell out of favour with Brendan Rodgers after his £16m arrival from AC Milan last summer, scoring only one top-flight goal in 16 matches.
Liverpool have heavily reinforced their forward line this summer, with Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings all coming in.
Sampdoria have already shown an interest in offering Balotelli a way out and the Italian side's president, Massimo Ferrero, has indicated that the Reds are prepared to sell for a loss.
"They told me that Mario was yesterday in Genoa," Ferrero told reporters on Monday.
"He costs €10m but, with discount, you look with open arms."
Balotelli scored four goals in 28 matches in all competitions for Liverpool in 2014-15 and Rodgers has refused to guarantee that the striker will remain at the club.
