Would you sign Jamie Vardy?

I reckon he would mate and I think he'd score shitloads. Therefore we won't sign him.
It's a good job Benteke already failed or we'd be signing him after last week.

I'm not saying we need another immobile player but Vardy strives on counter attacking football with space to run into.

We get fuck all space at the best of times

Smeg... Ah I miss Red Dwarf.
It's still going weirdly but if you haven't seen the last few seasons I'd avoid. It's like watching a beloved labrador that has lost it's hind legs and it's slowly crawling around the carpet looking forlorn. Best to remember the good old days dear chap.

'Smoke me a kipper'! 😉

It was a silly idea then and still is now, although my idea of taking Defoe is still a good idea.

Vardy wouldn't suit our style of play at all.

Neither would Defoe. He doesn't play wide, so he'd be looking to play down the middle and to stay there, when our best success has been with three players who interchange and work their bollocks off. For the right price he'd be a good "option" but not the solution. At least Vardy presses all game and will pull wide if he needs to, but his age is well against him.

You're saying Vardy thrives on space, so does Defoe. He's maybe got a bit more of the "fox in the box" about him, but his game over the years has been heavily reliant on his pace too.

We should be spending big on a younger player who fits the system AND is a regular goalscorer, but we've said this all season to much derision.

He's 100% not the solution but I think he would add to the squad hugely and unlike some of our strikers he's a very good finisher

Considering the way we play at the moment, I'd expect him to thrive for us away from home, but fail to improve how we play at home, given how deep and organised opposing teams set up at Anfield. And what we really need are players who'll make a difference in that home situation. Suarez was a rare player who helped us in that very situation because he'd dribble with the ball into the area and cause chaos, wrecking the opponent's game plan. Ideally we need a player who can do something similar - either take the ball with him into a congested penalty area, or stand with his back to goal and flick it one side or the other, of just find space for a close range shot. That's why in the short term I wouldn't mind Defoe as a player who'd at least come on from the bench, show some clever movement in the box and unnerve the centre backs. But we need a young and crafty striker who'll really give us that bit of invention on a regular basis.

Nobody's said they are against this from what I've read.

What some people are against is a striker who has good scoring stats but wouldn't fit the system.

Or a striker who has good scoring stats but isn't good enough to build an entire attack around.

But people seem to think that's a definite either/or.

No.

Why? Because it's exactly the type of signing that will be expensive and go wrong, that has typified us for the last two decades.

I'd rather take Defoe for a nominal fee. He has much more to his game and would serve us well as back-up.

Dolberg is all the rave but whether he would come is something else.
