Lucas was brilliant before his injury and was like a totally different player to what had gone before.

If he returns to that form, we have a top top player. However, if he can't and is at the general level he has played at, he's not good enough.

We deffo won't sell him now as we have just offered him a new contract.

That might be because we know Rafa will be in for him and we want to keep his price as high as we can.

I havent seen enough of Strootmans defensive side, but signing him as our deep lying playmaker would add a lot to our game.

Lucas, for all his tackling and hard work rate, is a very limited footballer.

It was a confused list with some playmakers and some defensive midfielders but some are actually defensive midfielders.

Take Busquets for example, he has good distribution and he's not bad on the ball but his primary role in the team is to act as a defensive shield. It is Xavi who acts as the playmaker. At times under Pep, the two centre-backs used to pull wide as the fullbacks pushed forward and Busquets would drop back making it a back three. It's the same thing with Song or Maschareno when he used to get given a chance there.

Someone like De Jong is a more extreme example than Busquets - he doesn't have the same ability on the ball and his only role in the side is to win the ball back.

I happen to agree that a deep lying playmaker is crucial for us right now and have been saying for months that it is the biggest issue Rodgers has to solve this summer what with having already purchased Allen for that role.

Busquets isnt a defensive midfielder, hes essentially a water carrier for the more talented players he funnels the ball from defence to attack Barca defend by never giving the opposition the ball. He drops into defense when other players push forward to give them balance not because he is a good defender, were talking about a team that have played Alex Song and Mascher in centreback they really arent that fussed who plays in defence as long as they are decent on the ball
