It's possible that with this being his last big contract, he may be swayed by a longer, more generous offer from another club, although this is all just speculation.

Edwards and kloop are not stupid if they are contemplating letting him go it's because they will have enough data to suggest there are other players out there who could do the job Gini does. We renewed Milner's 150k a week contract so if we thought Gini was value for money we would do it too.

Also I think after the Everton match you can see that there are lots of midfield talent available, maybe the 18 months will be used to see if Gini is able to maintain his levels as he gets older.

He can't be that hard to replace in world football can he surely? It's not like you have to train the new guy to have all sorts of exquisite skills. The new guys to do list would be:
Be physically fit so you can do our press like a mad man for 90mins
Work hard
Pass simple/square every ball
If you shoot make sure it's way off target

He's a part of our team, but it wouldn't exactly be like losing Alisson/Virgil/Trent/Robbo/Mane/Salah/Bobby

Its too early to be getting worried about but Gini is one of the key cogs in our machine. Ive no doubt that unless his demands are unreasonable, or hes offered mega money elsewhere a deal will be done. Probably a 3 year extension at an increased rate. Given the age profile of our senior midfielders and the injury records of our younger midfielders it would be very unusual to let him go.

Only if they are better. And they aren't even close yet. You can't just play them in the hope they will improve. Just keep giving them the odd game and sub appearance here and there and see if they sink or swim.

Having said that I think with the nature of the way we play all of our midfielders are more replaceable than any of the other departments. Fitness over technique seems to be the thing.

Klopp at Liverpool does not appear to be a huge fan of too many tippy-tappy bellends in his midfield.

Lallana even looked the part yesterday. And that other one who I can't remember the name of.

This all true, I think he likes steamrollers on the wing, but in the middle he likes workers and runners, which is why I think the easily replaceable option holds true. But I also think those positions have a limited timeframe under Klopps system due to the level of intensity required and maybe thats where we need to do the heavy changes each 3 to 4 seasons.

Also @rurikbird - not sure on this idea of him having the best tactical and positional intelligence, mainly because in his time with us he has gone missing in many games. That said he is my favourite in midfield because he is good in both defense and attack. However, not sure if somone was to sign him and then give him no guidance in that new role - would he be a success ?

I respect your opinion. But I am surprised that anyone would not be upset if we loose such a central player for us. He has probably played as much alone as the players that were supposed to come in and challenge his place in the team (Keita, Fabinho and Ox) has clocked up together over the two last seasons. And that is probably the best two accumulated seasons we have had in 4 decades or so. We will loose Milner, Gini and Hendo at some stage. We can even put Lallana in that bracket. They offer a hell of a lot to this squad, first and foremost through their displays on the field, but also by being the level new players have to stretch towards and surpass in training to lift this club further. So far only Fabinho of the 130M pound worth of Midfielders we have brought in has been even close.

He's been getting better and better each year. There are often comparisons to the more prolific Gini who plays for his country but he steps up a lot when it matters and his ability to retain the ball is absolutely beautiful to watch.
