Brazil v Colombia
  • Brazil have reached the quarter-finals in each of their last six World Cups, but haven't gone further than this round since 2002.
  • Colombia have made the quarter-finals for the first time in their World Cup history.
  • This will be the first World Cup meeting between the two South American sides.
  • The last four games between Brazil and Colombia have ended in draws, with three of those finishing goalless.
  • In their last clash in New York which ended 1-1, Juan Cuadrado opened the scoring just before half-time, with Neymar equalising in the second half.
  • Colombia last beat Brazil at the Copa America in 1991, losing seven and drawing five since that encounter.
  • That defeat remains Brazil's only competitive loss to Colombia, winning 13 of their competitive meetings (D6 L1).
  • Colombia have failed to score in nine of their last 12 games against Brazil.
  • The Selecao have scored eight goals so far in the tournament, as many as they managed to reach the quarter finals in 2010.
  • Brazil have lost just one of their last 16 World Cup games when they had scored first (W13 D2).
  • Los Cafeteros' 11 goals is the best ever haul in a World Cup. They need three more to beat their combined total of goals from their previous four World Cup appearances (14).
  • James Rodriguez is looking to become the first player since Rivaldo in 2002 to score in the first five games of a World Cup.
  • Should Rodriguez score here, he would become the first player to score in his first five career World Cup appearance since Teofilo Cubillas (across the 1970 and 1978 tournaments).
  • The Monaco player has scored with five of seven shots on target the tournament so far.
  • Juan Cuadrado is the first player to provide four assists in a World Cup since Riquelme and Totti in 2006.
  • In Serie A 2013/14, Cuadrado managed just five assists in 32 games, just one more than he has already provided in this World Cup.
  • Fred has managed to register just four shots on target in the tournament, three of those coming against Cameroon.
  • Brazil have conceded in each of their last eight World Cup quarter-finals.

Netherlands v Costa Rica
  • Netherlands have won 10 of their last 11 World Cup matches, with the only blip in this run being their 2010 final defeat against Spain.
  • Costa Rica are unbeaten in four World Cup games for the very first time (W2 D2).
  • Los Ticos became the first CONCACAF team since the USA in 2002 to reach the quarter-final phase of the World Cup.
  • This will be the first ever meeting between the Netherlands and Costa Rica.
  • The Netherlands have now turned their last four World Cup games in which they fell behind in regular time (90 mins, not inc. ET) into a victories.
  • Seven different players have scored for the Netherlands at this World Cup.
  • The Netherlands have never lost to a CONCACAF team at the World Cup (W1 D1, both against Mexico).
  • Costa Rica have beaten just one European side in their last seven encounters with teams from that continent, though this did come against Italy earlier in the World Cup (D3 L3).
  • Los Ticos have scored in all but one of their nine World Cup matches against teams from Europe, failing to score against England earlier in the tournament.
  • Wesley Sneijder has scored five goals in his last five World Cup knockout matches for the Netherlands.
  • Sneijder has played more World Cup games than any other Dutchman (15).
  • The Netherlands have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 World Cup knockout games, last keeping a shutout against Ireland in 1994.
  • Bryan Ruiz scored with Costa Rica's only shot on target in the match against Greece.
  • Keylor Navas has saved 87.5% of the shots he's faced at the World Cup so far, making 14 saves.
  • The Netherlands have scored 12 goals in 4 matches this tournament, as many as in their previous 9 World Cup matches combined.
  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar had seven touches against Mexico, including a goal and an assist.
  • The Netherlands are unbeaten in their last 11 meetings with teams representing CONCACAF (W10 D1) and have scored at least twice in 10 of those games.

France v Germany
  • There have been 17 goals scored in the three previous World Cup meetings between France and Germany, an average 5.7 goals per game.
  • Germany have scored two or more goals in each of those World Cup matches and are unbeaten since their first World Cup clash with France in 1958 (3-6 defeat), winning in the 1982 clash on penalties (3-3) and winning in 1986 (2-0).
  • The two sides last met in a friendly in February 2013. France took the lead through a Mathieu Valbuena strike in the first half, before second half goals from Thomas Müller and Sami Khedira secured the victory for Germany.
  • Germany have reached the semi-finals of the last three World Cups. No nation has ever made the last four in four successive tournaments.
  • Germany are unbeaten in 15 internationals (W10 D5), longer than any other side still involved at the World Cup.
  • On the last five occasions that France have progressed past round 1 in the World Cup, they have reached the semi-final stage (1958, 1982, 1986, 1998 and 2006).
  • All of France's goals during this World Cup have come from inside the box (10).
  • France have lost only one of their 10 games played on Brazilian soil (W6 D3).
  • France are the first team to benefit from two own goals in the same World Cup.
  • Les Bleus have hit the woodwork more often than any other team at this World Cup (6), which is the highest tally for a team since Poland and Argentina in 1982 (both 6).
  • Thomas Müller (four goals, two assists) has been directly involved in six of Germany's nine goals (66.7%) at this this World Cup.
  • Karim Benzema (19) has fired in 12 more shots than any other French player during this tournament.
  • André Schürrle has scored five goals in his last five competitive matches for Germany.
  • Miroslav Klose needs one more goal to be the World Cup's highest scorer. He is currently joint-top with Ronaldo (15 goals).

Argentina v Belgium
  • Argentina have won three of their four encounters with Belgium, scoring 10 goals and conceding four.
  • In the World Cup, they have one win each: Belgium were victors in the group stages of the 1982 edition (1-0) while Argentina won 2-0 in the semi-finals four years later thanks to a Diego Maradona brace. That was their last encounter.
  • Since the start of the 2010 World Cup, Argentina have won eight of their nine games in the competition, their only defeat coming in the quarter finals of the 2010 edition against Germany (0-4).
  • Argentina have won six of their last 19 World Cup games against European sides at the World Cup.
  • It's the third time in a row that Argentina have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup. However, the Albiceleste have never gone further than the quarter finals since they reached the final in 1990.
  • Argentina haven't won any of their last four World Cup quarter finals outright, going through on penalties against Yugoslavia in 1990 and being eliminated in 1998 (1-2 v Netherlands), 2006 (on penalties v Germany) and 2010 (0-4 v Germany).
  • Belgium have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup for only the second time in their history after 1986. They eventually finished fourth.
  • Argentina have been victorious (via penalties or winning AET) in six of their seven World Cup games that have gone to extra-time.
  • Argentina and Belgium are two of four teams to have won all their games at the 2014 World Cup (extra-time included), with Colombia and the Netherlands. All four of Argentina and Belgium's wins have been by a one goal difference.
  • Belgium's six goals in this World Cup have all been scored from the 70th minute onwards. Also, four of their six goals have been scored by substitutes.
  • Belgium have only been ahead for 52 minutes in their four World Cup games so far in 2014, less than any of the seven other teams in the quarter finals.
  • Belgium and Argentina have had the most shots in this World Cup (83 and 80 respectively). Marc Wilmots' men have also had the most attempts on target (32).
  • Argentina have averaged 64.3% of possession in this World Cup, the highest ratio of the tournament.
  • Lionel Messi has scored (4) and assisted (1) five of Argentina's seven goals at this World Cup. Three of his four goals have been scored from outside the box.
  • Messi is the player who has completed the most dribbles at this World Cup (24) and created the most chances for his teammates (18).
  • In the last 16 game against Switzerland, Angel Di Maria attempted 12 shots, the most ever in a World Cup match by an Argentinean player (1966-2014). He also scored the only goal of the game.
  • Javier Mascherano has won more tackles than any other player at this World Cup (18 out of 22 attempted).
  • Kevin De Bruyne delivered the final ball for a Belgian shot 10 times against the USA, more than any other player in a game at this World Cup. He was also involved in both Belgian goals, scoring the first and assisting the second.

World Cup 2014: Germany players suffering with flu symptoms
Seven Germany players are suffering from flu symptoms, 24 hours before Friday's World Cup quarter-final against France.
Coach Joachim Low did not reveal the names of the players affected.
"One third of our team were complaining about a sore throat," he said. "All players were able to train.
"They still have a slight cold but there's no feeling of exhaustion. I hope that we do not have any worsening overnight."
Mats Hummels and Christoph Kramer suffered with illness earlier in the week, with the former missing Monday's last-16 win over Algeria.
Low believes that the travel across Brazil, and different climate zones for their four matches so far - as well as matches in tropical heat, a heavy downpour and then in chilly Porto Alegre - have taken their toll.
He added: "Sometimes you have little problems and you have to wait for a day to see how that develops. With Mats Hummels, it was at its worst on day three; he had a fever."
