With the benefit of hindsight ....

Downing will come good.

He could have a bagful assists if carroll et al weren't so mongy infront of the goal .

Now maxi appears to be back in the fold its nice to have two capable players going for one position going forward.

I still quite like Downing and think he will come good.

He has created lots of chances and has suffered from our poor goalscoring form.

His overall play is sometimes unfairly criticised because people think he was expensive (which he was). However when he plays well people are reluctant to give him any praise, sometimes looking at the negatives rather than the positives (like so many players before him i.e. Lucas, Maxi who have went through long periods of forum criticism before their value to the team was recognised). Even before he signed, people were giving him abuse about lacking pace which was absolute bollocks.

I realise I'm on my own here.

you're not alone.

Although I do think that he needs goals or assists as his early form for us seems to deserted him.

I reckon I just can't see his value to the team because he's a winger who hasn't got any assists or goals.

He's a premier league proven, width providing - shit player.
As I've said all long but people keep believing the hype so...

Yeah I hope he starts shitting assists and goals in order to compensate for his previous performances.

Oh noes, Maxi and Bellamy are ahead of him now, at least according to logic.
Well I guess Downing will have a tough time ahead.

Here's hoping I'm wrong.

I wasn't happy about his signing... But
He's not a 'special player', but his stats for us could have been so much better if both our conversion rate and sometimes questionable positioning of our attackers were better.
He at least at the moment adds one definite value to our team, and that's his work rate in attack.
He, along with Enrique overlaps or goes behind the last man so many times during a game, whether it be as a decoy or to recieve a ball, that he completely knackers the right hand side of the opposition, not to mention bringing the CB out of position.
We do benefit from that. I think that much is obvious.

Now if only he can get a few assists and a goal or too, he'll get his confidence back up again and start playing like he did at Villa and the start of this season.

He was expensive, but what's done is done. I do think he'll be a very nice option in the squad for a good few years.

How many games have we played ? We are 1/3 of the way through the season, yes just 13 games (and he hasn't played in all of those) - there have been signs (both in our games and those for England) as to why we signed him. He came into a new unsettled side that itself is just inventing itself so it's not surprise he hasn't settled yet although he needs to provide those better moments we've seen more often, in fact it's ironic that the fact Carroll hasn't played much probably hinders his stats.
