Will.I.An

No mate he's not.

He's worth whatever it takes to get him plus the agent fees and whatever else. Cos he's aces on Fifa or some other cunty game. Plus I tried him in my team and we won the League 3 years on the bounce and the European cup....

And the stepovers, don't forget the stepovers!

People are seriously looking at this the wrong way. We got one upped in the transfer market by a club in the capital, who are in Europe and have just sold their best player to the tune of near £100m. What's tragic and underachieving about that? It happens, there's no way we should even be allowing ourselves to get dragged into these bidding wars at that price, I thought we'd learned from our mistakes. It's even more infuriating listening to fans chastise us for not spending over the odds, just because he's Brazilian instead of from the North East. It's still a massive gamble with big money that could hit us for six further down the line, we're already still recuperating from that shite, the sort of stuff which prompts your above question.

We need to be spending wisely and being clever in the market, there's no real justification for getting dragged into the latest going rate, just as a fucking fashion statement.
Losing top targets continuously and failing to match the finances of a bid, when we have the dosh are telling.

WE DIDN'T FAIL TO MATCH THE FINANCES, WE CHOSE NOT TO GO HIGHER THAN OUR VALUATION. THERE'S A MASSIVE FUCKING DIFFERENCE.

ITS NOT MONOPOLY MONEY AND ITS NOT FUCKING FIFA!!

*breathes*
Easy on the caps, it's not nice to read.

Tbh there is no difference - we could have met the valuation and have the resources to do so, we didn't , which is a shame as players like that don't often become available and we weren't competing against a massive European power.

The caps was to show the frustration!!!

There was a reason we didn't meet the valuation. I obviously don't know the details but I'd surmise that its because we're fed up of being fucked over on cost of the players and the agents fees. We're not cash rich, we are not about to sell our best player for £100m plus to Madrid etc etc.

I'd suggest that too many people are getting excited about a player with no more than an average record, in an average league, because he's Brazilian and therefore considered exotic. In our financial situation we cannot afford to chuck an extra £6m here and there on players because a) we don't have it and b) if we don't get into the European Cup we will not recoup that overspend.

People who constantly overspend on items or spend money they don't have end up going down the toilet.

Also, we have plenty of exciting attacking options, we don't need to spend £35m plus wages on another exciting attacking option, he's a luxury. What we do need to do is address the steel in our midfield. This funnily should cost far less than another exotic foreigner and would, albeit imho, be a better risk in actually getting us back in the top 4.

What pisses me off on here is that most, not all, have no real knowledge of these players that we're looking at and get excited by a) the price - he's expensive so he must be great! b) his nationality - he's Brazilian so he must be great or c) both of the previous - furious fapping at the prospect.

The method that some on here would use to scout and buy players would have us bankrupt within two years. Yes, I know a football forum is all about debate, but its fucking boring when the same people, keep banging on about the same types of player we should buy for an overpriced amount, and then moan when we don't. Its a boring comment, but buying players on FIFA or Champ man is nowhere near what it is in real life. You wouldn't think so if you were a regular visitor here.

We weren't competing against a massive European power. We were competing against a club that is far more cash rich, even without selling Bale, and has European football. If we want to get to where the club that beat us is, then throwing money we don't have, at overpriced exotic players who are a risk, is not the way.

I think people are upset because it's only 3m pounds, and then we go spend 10m on Will Hughes (allegedly) or 6.8m on Alberto.

3m isn't going to bankrupt you. It just means you don't buy Alberto. or Hughes. or whoever.
Of course it's easy to talk. If 3 geniuses come up available for 11m pounds each we'll be glad we didn't spend that on Willian.

You can't ever say for sure that it wasn't worth going over valuation. It's a risk one way or the other. In hindsight, we all know Suarez, Sturridge and Countinho were massively undervalued but we also bought Downing etc.

We do need to buy though.

We can't afford to overspend as we are still carrying the can for the 100M Dalglish and Comolli burnt. BR is doing the best that he can and addressing the needs of the club. The expected big name or marquee signing may not happen not because we are cash strapped but because we have no European football. The romanticm in football is lost but just sometimes, not the magic.

Its been a while that we've been in decline and rebuilding means we have to look for players wanting to contribute to a new era. Whether these are players looking to rebuild their own careers (Aly Cissokho), up-and-comers (Coutinho and Sturridge) or hungry established players (Toure) wanting to play for a legendary club and make a difference, attitude and quality will make the difference. BR is building something special but it won't happen overnight. Patience is an ingredient needed for success but not always gifted.

@SkySportsNews reporting a "twist" in Spurs bid to sign Willian. "Considering his options" #LFC

Every fucking journo seems to jump to the conclusion that us "losing out" on Willian means Spurs are a more attractive proposition for players than LFC. What doesn't get mentioned is the simple fact that Spurs are selling their best player this summer and we are keeping ours. That's why they have more money in the bank and also more urgency to sign other attacking players this summer. Just because Spurs were willing to pay more money to Anzhi than we were prepared to offer doesn't mean they are somehow a step above us.

Let's not panic; I think we still need to make one more key attacking signing, but if we do, I think we can definitely match Spurs and Arsenal.

My point being, do we need another exciting attacker? We have them in droves!

If we have to overspend, then lets do it in an area that needs it!

On the subject of Tottenham, here is more on the news that Sky Sports sources understand Willian is still considering his options despite passing his medical with the club. Talks are continuing over a five-year deal to bring the Brazilian to White Hart Lane from Anzhi Makachkala for a reported fee of £30million.

mmm.. could be re-opening the thread...

He's not waiting for us, it was a made up story to improve betting odds, and I imagine he's just waiting for a work permit.

And Ronaldo, an attacking player who can play on either flank, has signalled his intentions by admitting it would be a "dream" to move to Anfield.

"Liverpool are one of the best clubs in England and it would be a dream for any player to represent a club of such traditions," he said.

"I will have to hope that they make an offer that is good for both Sporting and myself."

Ronaldo added the lure of playing alongside Michael Owen has influenced his decision to greet a move.

"The English League is not one of my favourites, but it is very interesting," he insisted.

"I think my way of play can be reconciled in the Premiership. If a player possesses quality, he can adapt anywhere.

"Michael Owen is a great player and any youngster would love to be in the same side as him.

"Let's see how things turn out. I am going to continue working as hard as ever."
