LFC press conference delayed... Apparently due to an improved offer for willian..

#Rodgers is going to walk out to his Press Conference, sit down with #Willian in a #LFC top, slap his 10incher on table & invite media 2suck

And Ronaldo, an attacking player who can play on either flank, has signalled his intentions by admitting it would be a "dream" to move to Anfield.

"Liverpool are one of the best clubs in England and it would be a dream for any player to represent a club of such traditions," he said.

"I will have to hope that they make an offer that is good for both Sporting and myself."

Ronaldo added the lure of playing alongside Michael Owen has influenced his decision to greet a move.

"The English League is not one of my favourites, but it is very interesting," he insisted.

"I think my way of play can be reconciled in the Premiership. If a player possesses quality, he can adapt anywhere.

"Michael Owen is a great player and any youngster would love to be in the same side as him.

"Let's see how things turn out. I am going to continue working as hard as ever."

We had him in our grasp, 4million bid too, only for Big Nose Thommo, assistant manager at the time, to say he would never make it the premiership, too lightweight...

People are seriously looking at this the wrong way. We got one upped in the transfer market by a club in the capital, who are in Europe and have just sold their best player to the tune of near £100m. What's tragic and underachieving about that? It happens, there's no way we should even be allowing ourselves to get dragged into these bidding wars at that price, I thought we'd learned from our mistakes. It's even more infuriating listening to fans chastise us for not spending over the odds, just because he's Brazilian instead of from the North East. It's still a massive gamble with big money that could hit us for six further down the line, we're already still recuperating from that shite, the sort of stuff which prompts your above question.

We need to be spending wisely and being clever in the market, there's no real justification for getting dragged into the latest going rate, just as a fucking fashion statement.

that club is spurs and they are only in the europa league which means fuck all . i refuse to accept we are mile behind spurs now .

so we should never bid big for quality players ever again because previous management teams were fucking useless ? amazingly there are clubs out there who pay big money for talent which then delivers as expected .

and i don't have a problem if we choose not to pay over the odds for a player . i don't give a fuck what a player costs or where they come from , i care that the club signs proper talent . Have we done that this window or done enough to push for 4th ?

When Stewart Downing joined Liverpool at age 26 for 20m, Downing had 36 goals in 320 games, and circa 30 caps for England. Willian is 25 and has 40 goals in 274 games, with 2 caps for Brazil.

The caps was to show the frustration!!!

There was a reason we didn't meet the valuation. I obviously don't know the details but I'd surmise that its because we're fed up of being fucked over on cost of the players and the agents fees. We're not cash rich, we are not about to sell our best player for £100m plus to Madrid etc etc.

I'd suggest that too many people are getting excited about a player with no more than an average record, in an average league, because he's Brazilian and therefore considered exotic.

In our financial situation we cannot afford to chuck an extra £6m here and there on players because a) we don't have it and b) if we don't get into the European Cup we will not recoup that overspend.

People who constantly overspend on items or spend money they don't have end up going down the toilet.

Also, we have plenty of exciting attacking options, we don't need to spend £35m plus wages on another exciting attacking option, he's a luxury. What we do need to do is address the steel in our midfield. This funnily should cost far less than another exotic foreigner and would, albeit imho, be a better risk in actually getting us back in the top 4.

What pisses me off on here is that most, not all, have no real knowledge of these players that we're looking at and get excited by a) the price - he's expensive so he must be great! b) his nationality - he's Brazilian so he must be great or c) both of the previous - furious fapping at the prospect.

The method that some on here would use to scout and buy players would have us bankrupt within two years. Yes, I know a football forum is all about debate, but its fucking boring when the same people, keep banging on about the same types of player we should buy for an overpriced amount, and then moan when we don't. Its a boring comment, but buying players on FIFA or Champ man is nowhere near what it is in real life. You wouldn't think so if you were a regular visitor here.

We weren't competing against a massive European power. We were competing against a club that is far more cash rich, even without selling Bale, and has European football. If we want to get to where the club that beat us is, then throwing money we don't have, at overpriced exotic players who are a risk, is not the way.

there's a lot here I don't agree with, but the part in bold really really annoys me. I've been banging on about how medicore the totality of our attack is, compared to others others we lack serious lack FIREPOWER (excuse the caps, but it winds me up). The great thing is that Brendan gets this, hence the link with all the attackers, the sad thinkg is nothing is happening.

the midfield steel is a red herring. the best team last few years doesn't have midfield steel. let's get over it.

Sounds like a lot of paper talk being made up since a lot of the real action seems to be resolved already

the two finalists of last seasons champions league both had steel in midfield and used it to batter real madrid and barcelona.

Hasn't played in Chelsea's opening fixtures could be something in this..
if they sign Willian.. surely no place for him (moses) in the squad..
