Why on SCM is the #1 factor in deciding if a player is good or not...

The SCM board are currently convening in order to release an official statement that will answer your question.
As I'm not a member of the board I'll give you the unofficial answer, which is that the Premier League is renowned for it's fast paced football. High tempo, non stop action, hard tackles and so on. This isn't exactly news to you I guess.
But another factor is the players position on the field. A central midfielder doesn't need pace. I'd value awareness and positioning before pace in that case. However, it's a different matter if its a fullback, winger or a striker.

Because we've had a bunch of players who run as though they've got concrete inserts in their shoes. And we forget that the speed merchants we have had have largely been shit.

Whether or not he has pace??

Honest question.

It should also be pointed out that the definition of pace is whether you're as quick as Henry at his flying best.

If you're not as quick as Henry then you're clearly the opposition of 'fast', which by certain reckoning would = 'slow'.

All other things being even it helps if you're a fast runner. Big fucking surprise. It's a sport that involves running.

Yes thats why all gold winning sprinters are good footballers.
League winners Chelsea pack their mid field with them, Ballack, Lampard and Deco can really shift....

If your no good at kicking that round thing about, your no good at football no matter how fast you are.

Ballack, Lampard and Deco are all central midfielders. You don't need pace in the middle.

Yep, too slow to win any thing.

You certainly are

Oh... *snigger*... wait... *snigger*... you all actually think pace is what's important? *snigger*

Get to fuck.

Give me a natural born player with a footballing brain over a natural born athlete any day of the week. It reminds me of school trials they took the fast and strong lads thinking they can teach them the rest but the lads who could run rings around them every day in school got dismissed too small and weak.
