Why haven't we signed a defensive midfielder and a striker?

This is another thing that is doing my head in.

Why have we showed no urgency bringing in cover for these positions? If Kenny isn't being given the money, then loan players. Just over a week left in the window, but we needed these players at the start of the month.

Lucas got injured in November. Jay is our only other defensive midfielder at the club, who is also injured.

We knew that Suarez was going to miss 8 matches.

Our bench yesterday was truly depressing.

Downing and Kuyt to save the day? Don't make me laugh.

Kenny thinks the lads are doing a great job and we don't need anyone. That's what he saying publicly anyway.

I think we would have been at least 5points better off if we'd signed a striker in the first week of the window.

Our biggest offensive threat was unable to play for the whole of January, you would have thought it was a no brainer to get a striker in as early as possible in the window.

It's baffling why clubs leave it late in this window, especially one in our predicament. The damage is already done now.

i guess we haven't signed anyone because :

1/ we have a budget and don't have alot left for january deals especially considering how big we spent in the summer and previous window.
2/the quality of player we want is not available in january .

or maybe even

3/ kenny believes he has enough !!

I think the owners are preferring to invest in young players, and will take a short term hit with the first team, for a hopefully long term benefit.

They're not leaving it late, they aren't going to buy anyone.

We do need a monster CM who can break up the other team when needed. Lucas looked to be that player in the start of the season. Behind him Spearing can do a job there, but is no monster at all. With both out we are very voulnerable and with Lucas out this season we should get in a new one as first priority. We will need him over the years anyway and we might just as well invest now as the situation is desperate.

Buying out of desperation when there are no good players available is the sort of logic that brought us Andy Carroll for £35m, i dont see a defensive midfield monster who would be available now on our budget

but you dont know our budget? We need alternatives for that position. if there aint anyone available so be it, but if there is someone we should move now as we are stuck with Spearing for that position for the forseeable future. I would not be surprised if even carra will be put there for the City game! That shows how desperate we need this position filled in this window!

...or we haven't yet found a player who's good enough and available and affordable.

That hasn't once stopped us in the last 12 months though.
